I wouldn't like instanced housing, personally. I love the uniqueness of ffxiv housing and having actual neighbors. Feels more real, to me at least.

While the wards are nice, everyone having access to the content should be our first priority. Me.and many others are willing to give up the neighborhoods so that this can happen.
I finally got my house, and I NEVER see my neighbors. When I had my apartment, in a full building, I only regularly saw about 3 or 4 of the people there. The neighborhoods are nice to look at, but at that point, they might as well just be NPC houses.

Honestly I'd be happy if going forward all new wards were instanced instead. Keep the old system and do not punish those who bought into it, but create something more workable in the future. They were halfway there with the apartment system and I think making something similar for housing plots would go a long way in alleviating a lot of the aggravation on congested worlds. You don't even have to limit the capability to own chocobo stables or gardens. Simply designate a part of the closed instance for their use, though this would require a unique floor plan, and the rest for indoor items instead. Even an interior garden could work rather well.
Frankly I liked the idea of FF's housing for quite awhile, but with absentee neighbors, horrendous decorating skills (if I see another pink moogle palm I might just have an aneurysm), and more I think it's ended up being something with incredible potential that ended up being exceeding lackluster.
