Saying positionals don't hurt Samurai tells me you don't really understand Samurai. Missed positionals means missed Kenki. Missed Kenki means less Hissatsu techniques which range from 300 potency (Shinten, one of the main sources of DPS) to 800 (Guren), and not having Kaiten which turns the 720 potency attack (Midare Setsugekka) into like a 1080 potency attack, and more. Yes, Dragoons got shafted this patch but positionals very much hurt a Samurai when missed.
as someone who plays bard and mch, i can easily say that with the new playstyles, mch is actually easier to play than bard. I don't know where people on here are getting that mch is hard.....the only real difference in the 2 is that bard has more randomness to the rotation where mch is very simple. I think people need a bigger sample size with mch before they throw it in the trash.
If you think SAM missing positionals on Gekko and Kasha isn't punishing you have no room or experience to talk about how easy/difficult samurai is. A SAM missing their positionals is the same thing as Monk missing theirs, without the bonus kenki from your positionals means less kaitens/Shintens which is a massive dps loss. I get that everyone is extremely salty over SAM's wiping the floor with them, but at least do some research on what it takes to play sam at a optimal level. It makes you look foolish.
yes, because we have MP return like Aetherflow.....oh wait.......we dont =) we have to rely on Lucid Dreaming that BLM and SMN both have but they also have their own job mechanics for MP return.
i dont main SAM myself , though ive leveled it to 70 , i have no qualms with it out dpsing me on any other job. SAM is just as advertised , heavy dps and such , just no group utility......and everyone cries that RDM has DPS and can Raise in combat like SMN , but they fail to realize RDM has no job specific MP return , SMN has Aetherflow , and BLM has Umbral Ice to return MP.....when a RDM is out of MP , were SOTL hoping Lucid Dreaming isnt on CD.If you think SAM missing positionals on Gekko and Kasha isn't punishing you have no room or experience to talk about how easy/difficult samurai is. I really wish people understood the context of meta-gaming. First, all dps classes in this game are more balanced that most others. Yes, there's a margin, but we're talking single digit percents. Second, what class does the most damage doesn't effect anyone that starts threads like these. Chances are they don't play at a level to ever see the numbers they're commenting on or ever run the kind of content where it matters.
It gets aggravating watching casual and mid core players watching the commentary of people that are only, and purely, discussing job metas in the context of world first progression and thinking it has any effect on the rest of the game.
No one cares what you play in expert roulette or ex primals. The output discrepancy in dps jobs is no where near the level it would have to be to make any difference in anything but world first progression.
The game is so mind numbingly easy on most of the classes you called out, its hard to take you seriously.
FFXIV isn't even remotely challenging at any level. MMO's of ten years past would make you cry if you think this is in anyway hard. Dumbed down to babies level seems to be modern mmo's all over though unfortunately, so perhaps I'm biased having been here many years before their decline.
You literally have to use the abilities that provide these buffs in order to generate your resources, don't kid yourself. Failing to apply these buffs means you're not generating your main damage resource. It's 100% autopilot.SAM does have timers to watch... 4 of them. Slashing bonus, Shifu, Junpu and Higanbana and we have to keep track of where they're at to make sure we prioritize the right combo first so we don't lose our buffs or overlap Sen. And we've got to manage or Kenki in between all that.
It's not super difficult, but its not some auto-pilot class like some people are trying to claim.

Which MMO do you think has ever been more complex to play than FFXIV was before this patch? Even now, it remains more clunky than any I can remember.
I have no idea who people think they are kidding when they say stuff like this; MMOs in the early generations were incredibly oversimplified and while many had a tonne of abilities, most "rotations" consisted of using the most powerful ability 90% of the time. Maybe there's some Japanese DDR MMO that I haven't experienced that people rose-tint their glasses over or something.
FFXIV jobs are comparatively complex to play in the genre of MMOs generally, even if the game as a whole is relatively easy.

Machinist's woes seem to be less about poor design and more about straight up design errors.
For example when using ammunition, your attacks do not generate any heat, which makes no sense and there is nothing in the tooltips to indicate this is intended behaviour. Fixing that alone would eek out a meaningful increase in DPS. Then you have Flamethrower which seems to have been balanced as if it were a placed ground AoE like Shadow Flare, when in actual fact it's a channeled attack, as if there was some miscommunication between the devs on skill functionality and QA missed it.
If these were tweaked, then MCH would shake out as respectable ranged DPS.
