This I've seen a lot of. I always thought it was just a gil farming group. It's easy to spot a bot.
To quote an annymous friend who spotted them:
"They move in union ... draw weapons at same time ... cycle through targets and then in union move to the next spot. If I claim a mob, the bots still will run over and shoot my claim"
If they have the same character model and gear or are always in the same area 24/7.
Bots are easy to spot.
True, could be a noob, or someone who just wasn't paying attention. There have been a few times I was like "WTF why am I not catching anything" before I noticed I had no bait equipped or the wrong bait. LOL
Bug reports seems like a bad place to put cheats and bots, because they arent really bugs.
I do agree they need to have contact ingame, but even if they did alot of people wouldnt be satisfied because they wouldnt keep you up to date on the investigation, and they do make a thorough investigation, things like looking though chat logs and logs on servers, and possibly GM tells, which is usually the last part of the investigation to check if a possible bot is afk, this process can take a few weeks (especially if there have been alot of reports) so people will think nothing is being done and rage about that.
You can't satisfy everyone all of the time.I do agree they need to have contact ingame, but even if they did alot of people wouldnt be satisfied because they wouldnt keep you up to date on the investigation, and they do make a thorough investigation, things like looking though chat logs and logs on servers, and possibly GM tells, which is usually the last part of the investigation to check if a possible bot is afk, this process can take a few weeks (especially if there have been alot of reports) so people will think nothing is being done and rage about that.
The fact is that it is needed. How they deal with it is their responsibility. They cannot have customer service without communicating with the customers.
Wardens should be able to come in-game and look at the actual situation. Sisnce it is so obvious they should be able to suspend players on the spot until their investigation is complete.
Problem solved.
I believe WoW's warden is actually a program that runs in the background to search for third party programs and bot activity.
Of course players can find ways to circumvent it, I agree with the post in general though SE do need easier ways to content GM's in game and stronger deterrents to stop botting in general.
It's easier said than done though, they need 100 proof that someone is botting before taking action.
I would suggest 1 warning, 1 month ban and then perma ban.
Edit:- Im hoping that in 2.0 they have in game contact forums not only for bots but feedback and bugs reports and don't send you to an external webapage, most people don't want to be hassled with that.
In Wow when you contact a GM you are asked to type a short message regarding the problem, this should be standard really.

real players should never be in control of thisIt is so easy for real players to spot cheaters that Square Enix should have a solution other than filing a complaint to a Special Task Force and never get a response.
If it was truly a force, they should have staff that players could interact with and they come in-game to evaluate the situation and take action.
I have never played WoW, but know from a friend that they have Game Wardens that can deal with RMTs and botters in-game.
If they truly want to be a competitive MMO, they need to have staff.
I hope they consider this in the future.
Thank you.
period
all it takes is 1 bad apple and you have a nightmare on your hands of people banning for revenge
go look at several of the solution posts in the past where people talk about how players could do something to help enforce it with power, and youll see how bad it can really get
the best solution atm is for more players to be aggressive in reporting bots and such, right now thats the biggest issue, everyone wants the end result, but doesnt want to take the time to report the problem
SE is banning people already, not as fast as some of us want, but it is happening

Completely agree. Do we really want to go on this witch hunt? Grinding crafting is monotonous as is. Should I really have to reply to people to prove that I am not a bot when all I want is my level?
