Read a Tumblr post today from someone who owned 28 houses on a server and was mad that the rest of the plots on the server were purchased.

At what point is this kind of extreme house hoarding considered detrimental to the other players of the game?

I read the post too. IT's 2 accounts with 28 houses though, not 1 person. Still very shity and they apparently did it in retaliation for the number of people going to Mateus from Balmung.

The sheer entitlement in that post though is so damn insufferable too.

Edit: I think the best thing they could do to prevent something like this is for 1 FC house and a personal house per world. That way people like this can only have their FC house and personal and not work around the 1 personal house rule.

From what they had posted, they took over that ward before the transfers were even a thing. It wasn't in retaliation, they just had fun slowly tapping into unused resources for a creative outlet. With the population growing on mateus though it would be nice of them to reach out to some fcs in need and perhaps relinquish a few of the houses, keeping a sector within the ward for their Ascian home base.

Just looking at the last interior. But for the most part, remember those spooky animal crossing villages? That's pretty much what their ward is here. Each house with a spooky 'Ascian' underdone.

That aside. They have owned 28 houses, in game, for over a year. Nobody would have noticed, or cared, if they didn't open transfers.

I looked around "their" ward too. A number of the houses are either locked or completely empty, or sparsely decorated. They repeat the same styles over and over. They clearly aren't using all of these houses. And a lot, in my opinion at least, are flat-out ugly.

You're right, nobody may have cared before. But now people are coming, and instead of being nice and welcoming the new people to the server, they're clutching their toys to them and screaming that the people who want a house are wrong. Regardless of whether or not they were being used before, it is greedy. Nobody would appreciate that kind of selfish behavior IRL (I'm not talking about with real houses though I guess you could think of it that way) but for some reason it's okay on a game with thousands of people playing. Asking for "peace and quiet" on the world's second largest MMO is just not a reasonable expectation.

Everybody wants people to transfer off of Balmung, but nobody wants them on their server. It's worth knowing that people were trying to make Mateus a secondary roleplay server well before the transfer incentives were put in place. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess.

I don't think they're screaming that people who want a house are wrong, I think they just honestly want to be left alone. And I don't blame them? I guess? They DID move to Mateus on purpose over a year ago to be in a ghost town. I can't imagine they were the ones to 'cast the first stone'. But yeah, busy MMO.

I don't really understand the hostility on either side of the fence. People told Balmung folks, 'LOL BALMUNG PROBLEMS LMFAO JUST MOVE SERVERS!!' So they did. And so they did en mass. It's totally understandable that they'd just shuffle people around on the already dead servers, rather than make a whole new server. And TBH most of the Balmung people already know what it's like to know straight up they'll never ever have a house.

I’m just going to start off by saying I have no idea who these people with 28 houses are, the only thing I know about them is from their Tumblr post that I have just read through.

They seemed to pick the server in the first place because it was dead, and they picked the most undesirable ward for housing in this game, which is the Goblet Ward 12. I just happened to make a character on Mateus to check out house availability on Mateus a week or two before the flood gates of Balmung opened up, and there were plenty of houses in every ward available. I was even shocked that the Mist and Lavender beds Ward 1 had housing available. Housing was not very desirable on this server, it was pretty obvious. They bought up the ward BEFORE the floodgates of Balmung opened up, and it doesn’t seem like they are trying to price gouge people at all, they just seem to genuinely enjoy housing and wanted to decorate houses and keep to themselves, so the fact that people are shit talking them now that SE decided to open up the floodgates I feel is super unjustified. They even said it themselves “Mateus showed no signs of getting bigger”.

People harassing them on the forums and talking shit behind their back should probably check themselves. They did nothing wrong in the first place. They picked a undesirable server and a undesirably housing ward. You guys can be captain hindsight now and tell them “you should have known that SE would lock up Balmung, and offer free transfers with full gil to another server, it’s incredibly selfish of you to have done and you should be ashamed”, but there was no housing crisis when they bought up the houses, and they were having fun with the housing ward that they own. If you really want to blame or shame anyone, it should be SE for setting up this crappy housing system in the first place, but don’t blame or shame these people for doing what was in their right to do in the first place. Honestly just leave these people alone.

IT's more of the fact that 1) they made that post and made it sound like they have a stick 5 ft up their asses
2) the palpable disdain that people from Balmung are moving to Mateus
and 3) the obvious exploitation of the housing system, which yes is shitty and SE made it clear that this could be done with "1 personal house per character"
The fact that they have used #3 is not only screwing over anybody that's moving to Mateus AND people that are just getting into the game and would like a house. All of them are now forced to wait til Shirogane is up. Even then there is the chance that people wont be able to get a house. A higher chance than they would on Balmung or Gilgamesh, but it still makes it hard for those that want a house for themselves or FC to get one.

see someone selling a house by shout or PF report them as against the rules more so selling it for more money then they paid for it so let them bye 14 house when see them selling it for double the price report them if the GM doing what they should then should get a suspension if not out right ban then just got to wait 45days for them to come back up

...But what about fc leaders ?

Shouldn't be an issue since you are purchasing through the FC rather than individual. Every player would have the potential to purchase 2 house; one individual and one FC. Of course this can be abused to but much than letting alts buying up lots. Another device would be the inability to relinquish a plot until after 45 days has past. Plot seller who want to make quick gil would be held to a slow turning around for profit and might discourage it as a fast source of income.

I haven't been to that ward but the 28 houses thing isn't the only ward on the server where someone or a small group have taken a fair number of lots.. It was the other day my husband asked if this name was a fc or player and from the looks of it a Fc had at least 7 or 8 houses.. While I get it.. it was a small server it kinda bites really hard as my whole FC moved from Balmung just to try and finally get a FC house. We've been a Fc from the start of 2.0, had to drop our x year old FC just to move.. and naught to show for it.

Shoot the rumor that the new house area was opening today and I went there just to see how many were standing in the area.. I'm not holding out much hope on us getting a house. Though it is annoying to see most of the ones standing there knowing too well they already have at least one if not more houses on the server. >.< As much as I don't like to fault or restrict people in what they do with their game time.. it is just flat out silly that a chunk of game content is blocked to so many players. I was so excited to move to a small pop server with a community I had been enjoying over a free to play weekend. I had plans to help my Fc mates finally get the food and stuff to color and level their chocobos.

Now I just have to twiddle my thumbs and hope I get really lucky in the land rush that I guess will happen in a few months.
