    not really, the materia system by and large canabalizes itself. There may be a few floating around but they wont be affordable, and in all truth, you know what you do to a 2xmateria when you get a 3xmateria? blow up the 2xmateria trying to make it a 4x materia.

    even if one guy doesnt take that risk, some guy down the line will.

    anyhow, the fact is there will be way more ifrit weapons, stronghold gears etc than there will be 3x materia crafted items, simply because the amount of resources required to make one are much more stringent than it is to get Stronghold gears.

    See im confused, because on one side you say you want gear that will last a long time, on the other side you say you ll end up wearing your materia slotted gear forever.

    in any case, it wont be forvever, whenever new slotted gear comes out thats basic stats are better, or more tailored to you liking, people will start to try to create 2x materiad versions of it. but their old gear will last them until they can finally create the slightly better version. It will still have value, because even if it isnt the best, its still better than anything you could easily obtain without massive monetary investment, or time investment.

    Rare ex gear could only be slotted by a self crafter at this point, so its not that important yet regardless. Probably what they should do is re evaluate some of the lower class rare ex drops and put them as meldable, but things like ifrit weapons, cant would far outclass things if they had the same materia abilities.

    they said they were thinking about it though, so i wouldnt say its impossible to imagine that they will allow it, or make the rare ex gears at least materializable, with some of them having special materia coming from them.

    But i would imagine it would not be the best gear in game even so. If they allow great gear to be destroyable, and put in the loot system people want, then people will be competing for the same gears even when someone has gotten in 4 or 5 times. it will just make the elite that more elite, even within their own groups.

The whole gear system as it is right now is lame, they need to add in gear swaps, stat mods for weapon skills, and make ACC ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING and as mentioned before allow materia with same % to meld as +3 items or higher on U/U items. By doing that you will increase the number of players out in SH's and increase the materia market and overall fun in playing

    What they need to address is how HQ armor doesn't affect the stats of the gear besides defense. At least give the bonus stats another point or so. If you see what people list HQ ingredients for in the market wards, it makes no sense to buy them just to try to make something with higher defense and to give a slightly better chance at attaching more materia.

    that is changing in 1.20 AND automatic HQ is being introduced if you have all hq+3 mats. Which will make getting U/U gear even more pointless if there is no bonus

    uhhh, +3 is higher base stats, IE more dmg and acc on a weapon, more defense on armor. Compating it to the best rare ex stuff, a regular crafted item usually has lower base stats.

    so take an ifrit knuckle

    131 dmg 20 attack 15 fire resistance and fire damage chance
    the best craftable weapon for pug
    117 dmg
    there is no dmg + materia so in order to come close to ifrit you would need a +3 knuckle
    it would probably be like
    126 dmg or so (just guessing i think +1 adds 3 for this weap)
    then best you could do to similate 20 attack is put 20 strength on it (pug doesnt have access to att materia on its weapon)
    no way to similate the fire resistance or additional effect, but if you could use a elemental def materia it would be +15

    so basicallly dropped gear is around equal to a +3 3xmateria gear, so why you complaining?


    btw gear swaps suck, ACC matters for high level monsters, but even so they said they may lower it back to before though everyone complained. And no one really has any idea if stats mod weapon skills right now, it may infact do so, so what are you complaining about again?

    That's good. I knew you'd be able to get auto HQs in 1.20 if you had all HQ mats but I didn't know they said anything about increased stats on armor, because as it sits right now all you get is more defense, unless the bonus stat gains are hidden.
