What the Market Board needs, is in use in Final Fantasy XI, an Auction house. You can't see how much the item you want to buy is listed for, you can only see the history of the last ten sales to gauge what the general public are happy to pay.

This system worked great, because to buy anything, you had to BID what you feel comfortable paying, this means you have to keep typing in numbers, usually by going on the sales history.

Now, we see retainer names, players posting 10 to 100 of an item to scare off other sellers, sale wars, massive undercutting on a huge scale, selling finished products sometime 50 to 90% less than the material cost to make said finished product, its a flawed system controlled by well-off players that can easily afford to loose Gil just to make a sale. And really, isn't the worst issue the fact it costs 3M to buy a small house, yet to buy that new decoration its 20M on the market board...
