Every 5 minutes is a hilarious quip making fun of Alphinaud,

And this is exactly the reason I can't bring myself to like her. She's constantly putting her brother down, even when he's not around, which to me says that she's insecure and trying desperately to prove to us that she's better than him, and we should like her more than him, even though we have a lot of history with him and barely know her at this point.

It's sloppy writing, too; the English writers clearly either don't like Alphinaud very much, or at least assume most of the fanbase doesn't and like to play up the jokes and abuse at his expense when they can get away with it. And I really did dislike him right up until the end of ARR, but between the events of 2.55 and the whole of Heavensward, he's grown up a lot and become a true friend to the WoL. Alisaie, on the other hand, had a handful of scenes in the VERY early part of 2.0, and then the Coil sidequest, and suddenly she comes back out of nowhere and people adore her despite her utter lack of development compared to her brother.

She's funny. And her sibling teasing, especially a sibling she is obviously close to, makes her extremely relatable. I'm not the only person in this thread who already mentioned that the snarky remarks she makes toward her brother are something that call to mind our own relationships with our siblings. Just because I tease my older sister near constantly doesn't mean I wouldn't kill for her, and vise versa. Besides, Alphy is such a stuffed shirt character, other characters are constantly taking jabs at him, Krile and Estinien being two of the ones that pop into my head immediately. I didn't particularly care about her prior to 3.4 or even 4.0, but she has really grown on me, largely because of her attitude. And I like post-Crystal Braves Alphy quite a lot too. Getting to observe their relationship has been one of the high points of the SB MSQ for me so far.

IMO, the writing for the two of them has been anything but sloppy. They've done a fantastic job of making a believable sibling relationship between them- competitive and teasing on the surface but when it matters very close and devoted. I would have a much harder time swallowing a brother/sister relationship that was constantly loving and perfectly harmonious, especially after they parted ways because of their obvious differences in ARR. They established early on that the twins are very different personality-wise and do not see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but when the chips are down, they will have each others' backs.

It's not sloppy writing when Alphinaud has been an incompetent, pompous boy for two expansions with almost zero people calling him out on it. Having someone willing to tell him (and others) like it is is quite refreshing. I like Krile for the very same reason! She doesn't let him get away with his shit.
