My Shinryu clear took 2 additional tanks (first tank left after second wipe, second tank left after one wipe) and we started the last attempt with 15 minutes left. Nobody appeared to know the mechanics, so meh. At least everyone learned it as we got farther.
The interesting thing to point out is that once everyone learned not to fall of the platform, is that it's very heal-intensive, and it's difficult to recover from if multiple people need to be raised. We had two RDM's in the party who volunteered to raise anyone who dies, so that was an interesting twist.
With the chains, the mechanic is similar to the Holy Chains in the Vault. If the two players marked group together before the chains appear, they won't have to run as far to break them. The further apart they are when the chain appears between them, the more they have to run to break it. Maybe that's what your party members were trying to do?
My first Shinryu attempt, I queue in with a RDM friend and a random DRK we picked up from our server also trying to get in. First group ended up as a vote abandon for 2 reasons:
1. Mr. Big "I've Cleared This Multiple Times" second tank didn't want to stand near the other tank to get tethered for Ahk Morn, nor did they want to stack. Even after we told them that this Ahk Morn is handled like it is in T13. When they finally complied, lo and behold, the shared damage was far less than the solo damage the DRK we queued in with was taking. Later complained that they still had to CD for it, and I was like "Of course you would need to CD for Ahk Morn; no one said you wouldn't have to. Just like you would need to use one in T13." >.> They were a DRK too, so I said: "Tether, stack, Dark Arts+Dark Mind, and you're golden."
2. The SCH we had was as dumb as a box of rocks. I don't know of any other way to say that. During Hellfire, we told them to stand in the water puddles to mitigate damage and so the Burn DoT wouldn't hurt as much (because they kept dying to it). Their response: "What do the puddles look like?"
....
Uhm. Like water puddles?
I know they were probably new, but when you tell someone ten million times to stand in the puddles, and when they can clearly see everyone else standing in the puddles (and living), yet they continue to not stand in the puddles EVEN when people say in chat "Get in the puddles".... sigh. My patience was already thin with Mr. Multiple Clears, and this SCH was just pushing me to my limit.
Little note to these healers that see a BRD and think they don't have to properly manage MP or use Lucid Dreaming: my MP Refresh may be powerful, but it's on a 180 second cooldown. You no longer have any Mage's Ballad to rely on, since it does something completely different now. So please work with me to keep your MP at a healthy level. Thanks.
Run ended in a Vote Abandon because we ran of time. Didn't help that the WHM was basically solo healing because the SCH spent more time tanking the floor that they would have made any DRG proud. Second time queuing in, cleared with no wipes because people actually did mechanics! It's amazing what happens when you follow mechanics, no?

I gotta say, I'm noticing something pretty ingenious with this.
When the developers revealed the fact that Direct Hit as a stat exists, the vast majority of players only thought about how it would affect their own personal damage. Few people, if any at all, took into consideration that it may come back to bite everyone in the ass because technically that should mean enemies can now direct hit against YOU. That's likely precisely why tanks are dying so much faster, despite the healing potency increases and the Cleric Stance removal. Stance dancing has no place in the new environment.
People thought SB was going to make the game easier due to all the class and stat changes. I bet most people are eating crow right now, because what I've seen from this expansion thus far is that while it's easier to play most classes, it's harder to deal with actual mechanics overall. Which is the way it should be.

On a second note, these Bard bugs are annoying, what with the whole party buffs not even affecting myself and all. But that's not even the worst part.
I literally used Battle Voice in a 4-man dungeon only to watch in horror as I saw it MISS the entire party.
I wanted to cry in a corner. ;_;
Just had my first Shinryuu. Get brought in as a replacement for another healer leaving with 44 minutes on the clock. I tell the party that I'm new, the tank proceeds to pull before the countdown goes off without anyone explaining anything. I die pretty fast, the other healer leaves me on the floor for a good 4 minutes. They could have res'd me, they res'd their ninja friend, they chose to try to solo heal for some reason. Around the second phase my Mom comes in and tells me she's in severe pain and I'm worried it's meningitis but she's being a stubborn about doing anything. Tell the party I'm going to have to leave if they wipe and I get a flippant response. They did make it down to like 30% but it was a wipe anyways because the other scholar ran out of MP and I laughed so damn hard.
Taking care of my Mom now but that was just such an arrogant and jerky way to treat team members I would have left regardless I can see why the other healer split.
Did a 50/60 roulette Me(NiN) a BLM,SCH and a DRK, We were at Great Gubal Hard. Every mob we would goto and the BLM and me would rip hate from the DRK, I'm using shadewalker and smokescreen every pop like no other, after a few pulls and us DPS just getting smacked all over The place the DRK says he's using all his combos right Stormblood just messed up tanks!
So midway through still getting punched in the face SCH is working overtime trying to keep us all alive, the BLM looks at the tanks gear all i260 but he is using a i145 weapon. -_-, he says he is trying to spiritbond it. He apologized and asked to be kicked, BLM told him no (we were pretty much finished anyway) just promise me you will get a real weapon so the next group don't get destroyed throughout the dungeon. Was inter sting for sure...
Don't forget to hug your favorite LALA!
Understood, and I wasn't trying to make an excuse for bad play.
I just hate that place. For some reason, every run in that place feels clunky. On my PLD and DRK, I am planning to level both from 44 to at least 47 on just grinding that zone. I will have a smooth Dzemael run if it kills me.![]()
My tank kicked me right at the very end of my leveling roulette in The Sunken Temple of Qarn because he couldn't hold aggro over me.
Considering Square Enix does nothing to combat this kind of behaviour, all I can do is advice Odin players to blacklist [redacted].

Firstly I bleive naming and shaming is not allowed, please remove the name.
Secondly, report them.
If people report the people that abuse the vote kick system they will eventually get punished.
They may not be punished the first time someone reports them, but futher reports will add up and show a patter of behavior.
Ignoring people does nothing for the problem, reporting them either has their warnings correct their behavior, or they eventually get banned due to repeat offences.
I was one of the healers in the Shinryu / Royal Menagerie run that Sammix87 is referring to, so maybe I can shed some light /share my perspective/experience on what happened....
I joined Sammix87 for her first time/clear on Shinyu because I had already cleared it as a healer and had the basics of the strategy down so I figured that it would be beneficial for me to help out rather than risking two newbie healers and countless wipes.... and it feels good to help people get clears, right?
Party was as follows; 2x WHM, 1x DRK, 1x PLD, 1x BRD (Sammix87), 1x NIN, 1x MNK, 1x BLM
We spent 59 of the 60mins available in the duty trying to clear it and we could have cleared it with 1:30 or so left to go because boss only had 2-3% hp left, but alas there was a derp so it was a wipe. It was a little frustrating, only because for the most part, 75% of the party had got the strategy down and it was silly things causing wipes / making it a difficult task to get that clear for everyone. We wiped a lot of times in this run, but it was ok because you have to let people learn the mechanics, and as I said, 75% of the party were on point in doing that, each wipe/attempt was a step closer and we almost got every person in there a clear, so I left disappointed for everyone at the end...
Firstly, the PLD just could not get to grips with any of the mechanics and I wasted so much MP swiftcast raising him (as did the other healer) and popping MP regen abilities and ideally healers need their MP for keeping everyone up, not for raising one person over & over... could have left him ko'd but we really needed him up. I wont spoiler for anyone who is yet to reach the fight, but basically all of the mechanics are things we have seen before in other fights, they're not difficult to do, but you just need to execute them... which ofc takes practice but.... this PLD couldn't grasp any of them despite everyone explaining them over and over.... he blamed lag/latency (as per), he blamed SE, he blamed Yoshi-P, he blamed raiders for wanting difficult story content.... basically he didn't learn a thing across any of the wipes/attempts and just overall made the whole thing harder....he got ko'd to EVERY mechanic he could get ko'd to....frustrating right?... I mean, he may very well have had some latency but if so, he should have dropped and let us get a replacement.... I think we felt for him so no one had the heart to vote-dismiss him (yay nice people in the duty finder!)... and I hope he has learned a bit from the experience.
After 4th wipe BLM gets annoyed and drops out, we get another NIN as a replacement, who was in a full set of the new Ala Mhigan Blue gear... should have better survival and DPS right? NOPE. I wonder if he was in a contest with the PLD to see who could get ko'd the most times in one duty... I swiftcast raised him, and he raised but auto-died again.... and then claimed he raised into the falling animation but he was actually just standing on an AOE and got 1hit ko'd lol. I laughed but I wasn't sure if I was laughing with him or at him... xD
In regard to the post that I quoted, you're right that the chains work in the same way as the ones in the final boss of the Vault. The DPS I was chained to contributed to wiping me by running to me when I moved away from him.... and the other healer tried to raise me instead of doing Medica II/Assize/Plenetary Indulgence/Divine Benison... and everyone went down.... and I raised... only to then get auto ko'd because aggro as I was the only 1/8 alive and we had no LB3.
This is basically what happened; We had 3 mins left in the duty and Shinryu was sitting on only about 4% hp, we had almost a level one limit break and all DPS were up and doing their jobs.... everyone was in the middle of the zone, taking down Shinryu's hp when I (WHM) got chained to one of the DPS literally seconds after you need to move out of the large AOE circle .... PLD moved way too late and got ko'd again... DPS and I were on a small chain since we were close together so I assumed that by moving I'd break it and that would be it... so I popped swiftcast and ran AWAY from the DPS to raise PLD again, only for the DPS to chase me and stand right on me right as those blue AOE lines popped.... because I was targeting PLD for swiftcast raise, I moved maybe one sec too late.. and my hp was low because of the DPS running onto me when we were chained... I could have wasted the swiftcast and healed myself but I had no idea on popping swiftcast that those blue aoe lines were coming, we were home free..... or so I thought... I dodged too late and went down.
I guess the other healer panicked and thought it was the best idea to raise me, but they could have beaten him and got a clear if only she had used an AOE heal instead.... it's pretty funny tbh, but was kind of annoying at the time.... we wiped and respawned with 1min left in the duty.. everyone was a little bummed, but I think they all left happy that they got some practice on the mechanics.... and I hope that they have all gotten their clears now.
But honestly, it was the funniest and most annoying time I've had in the duty finder for a while!
