Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that. I guess because I don't try to stay logged in when I'm not playing.

Nobody is getting banned for that. Stop. Quit calling for bans over something trivial. We get it you didnt get to play the game and had to wait in a queue... welcome to Early access and launch week. here in a couple of weeks things will normalize and youll get right in.
Yea no I basically barely got to play on Early Access because of the insane queue times I had so I am going to abuse this and I suggest instead of crying about it once you get on and then need to go afk you do the same. Let's be real SE are more likely to get an uproar if they banned people for doing everything to stay in the game because guess what OP you aren't the only one having to wait an age to get in the game either.
And everyone who does this is rude and inconsiderate.Yea no I basically barely got to play on Early Access because of the insane queue times I had so I am going to abuse this and I suggest instead of crying about it once you get on and then need to go afk you do the same. The queues wouldn't be so bad if people just logged out like they were supposed to, instead of exploiting game mechanics to avoid the afk kick timer.
And that's exactly what it is, exploiting the game's mechanics to avoid a measure put in place to help everyone.

Thanks for the laugh. Queues would be EXACTLY the same as they are now. you're looking at a handful(maybe a few hundred tops) out of a.. at peek 6k queue. that's not going to resolve anything. and as the person you quoted said, in a few weeks things will normalize just like they always do. This is to be expected for EA and launch week. happens all the time in nearly every mmo out there. And everyone who does this is rude and inconsiderate.

As I say to every person complaining about the queue(yes I'm in the queue right now), don't like it, transfer to a low pop server.

The easiest solution would be as such: have the game simply check for registered button inputs/commands. Regardless of status or action. If no button input is noted within x amount of time of last input, youre out.
We won't see bans throw out because it's too easy for there to be false positives. The two common "exploits" I've seen at various times (I won't list them to avoid ToS violations) are common everyday actions within FFXIV that are simply extended indefinitely. But there are plenty of reasons for this to happen innocently, too (any sort of interruption at the wrong time, such as a phone call, kid crying, whatever). It would hardly be fair for someone interrupted in said manner to come back to a ban.For people that abuse the work around on the afk timer? I know I know, I'm on Balmung, why aren't you transferring off of Balmung then, and all that worthless tripe people throw around, but when it gets to the point that you see several people unable to play, and the /only/ choice is to play at hours that nobody who actually has things to do in the real world can play? Maybe SE should stop having a hands off approach and actually do something for people constantly abusing said work arounds. Or boot people off of the server so they get stuck in queue. One of the two. I've had enough of seeing it in 2.0, 3.0, and now 4.0. Where people did this on a regular basis just so they can stay on for incredibly selfish reasons.
Yes I'm mad. No, I'm not going to transfer off of a server I was on since 1.0 just to get an immediate 'gain' for a long term loss.
A more accurate target for your blame is SE. They're the ones who let Balmung and certain other servers become more populated than they could effectively handle. They're the ones who typically lock server transfers behind a pay wall outside of relatively small windows of time. They're the ones who failed to meaningfully upgrade the hardware powering these overpopulated worlds, despite having a perfect opportunity to do so with the data centre relocation. They're the ones who didn't even place a f*cking lockout on trial accounts during periods of high congestion.
Just because they're trying to take the lazy way out with a poorly-implemented AFK timer doesn't mean you should gamely focus your frustration on other players who, intentionally or otherwise, break the timer mechanism.
Bans aren't needed. Kicks are. Maybe a redesign of how the game determines AFK. I don't craft often--is it realistic to expect that it can take 30 minutes to craft a single item? If not, then as someone above me suggested, during the first few weeks of the expack SE should make it so that no key-press for 30 minutes = kicked.

You do realize there easy ways around that? All I have to do is go to my room and put a small object on the d key, and I move around in a circle with no AFK timer activated. The same can be done with controllers. You just put a string over one of the joysticks, so you are constantly moving.Bans aren't needed. Kicks are. Maybe a redesign of how the game determines AFK. If it is, as you claim, a few hundred...Thanks for the laugh. That's a few hundred less using up server resources that could be used for activly playing characters.
It can't be "EXACTLY the same" as there will be less people.
That is objectivly better.
And just because the 'problem' will smooth out eventually doesn't mean we can't encourage SE to do a better job for the next time they need to implement the afk kick.
Close up those exploits so that in the future it is fair for everyone.
