I think all of you who said that transferring is an option should ask yourselves this question... If the government were to tell you that you are given the following two options...
1) Cope/deal with "the suffering" that you're currently experiencing and wait for it to pass.
-or-
2) Move to a different city/state/country that has little to no suffering, but to do so would mean that you couldn't or may never ever see your friends and family again.
Would you take it?
Everyone understands that the reasons to either stay or leave a place. There are a list of consequences and ramifications to consider when leaving a place that you may NEVER be able to return to. The first question anyone has in their mine is why should they move to someplace else. The second thing they think of is what will they gain and what will they lose from this move. This isn't a simple a different apartment/city/state/country for a while and then move back. YOU CAN NEVER COME BACK TO A CONGESTED SERVER ONCE YOU MOVE. Why do I say this? Because while it has been said that the congested servers may reopen again, I highly doubt that will ever happen seeing as how the idea is to get people of these congested and highly populated servers.
Now, you may say it's not a big deal to just move a server which is true if you're someone that plays by yourself, but it's different once you have come to call a place that is your home such as the argument that someone made earlier about being part of an Free Company for more than over 3 years and have since considered those people as their friends and to an extent with other people, their family. People such as these would and will not be willing to transfer off a server if it means losing the people that they have come to love and care about, as well as, like/want to play with these people. Another thing to consider is that these highly congested/over populated servers have since the beginning of FFXIV: ARR created/become their own community. So, another thing to consider is if people are willing to move out of a community that they have become adjusted and settled in. So yes... the main point of my argument is about people and community. There is another point to mention involving the economy, but I rarely ever buy stuff on the marketboard.
Of course, I'm saying all of this as someone from the Balmung server. And there is a MAJOR difference between Balmung and the other servers in that people are willing to do things out of the goodness and kindness of their hearts. People are willing to gather or craft things for you for free if you were to ask nicely. Other people on the server are willing to offer assistance and help you through content if you ask nicely. If you are nice, helpful, polite and respectful to someone, they will more than likely be/do the same and return that goodness and kindness back to you. Grant it... these are mostly just from the people and things that I have experienced and I'm sure others have others may have had different experiences, but the overall idea to all of this is the same. It's all about the community of a server along with other things that an established community can offer and has offered already that a developing server cannot or may not be able to do. So while the transferring from a server is an option, it isn't an option for everyone given the potential gains and losses. That is why telling someone to just move someplace isn't that simple when you can't move back to the place you're moving from.
