We made Balmung a roleplaying server ourselves. We have the option to migrate since we aren't official. We have the power to change this, but again people are stubborn, and they don't want to leave, unless there was a mass exodus, but it won't come. Not enough people will make it happen. It's irony of itself.

That is to be expected. Call them excuses all you fancy, wanting to stay with your friends is perfectly justifiable, especially in a game where social interaction is a major selling point. It isn't stubbornness, it is simply putting our own enjoyment above random strangers on the internet. You are essentially asking people give up potential connections with those who aren't willing to transfer, their house and/or all work put into their FC for... what exactly? Square Enix had years to figure this out and chose to happily collect $18 instead. If it's bad enough, they could make a brand new RP server and allow Balmung players to transfer their houses and FCs over without any fuss. But that would cost them a lot of money. So... we know that won't happen.

Got another question guys. About FCs, and yeah I looked around and didn't find anything official.

Can FCs be transferred? I have a small max level one with a friend and was hoping to bring it over. If not, do FC owners transferring to a preferred world get any aid in rebuilding their FC? I vaguely remember reading that somewhere but can't find where I read it.

I'm actually quite certain that Balmung is going to get force split since I doubt it's going to reach the levels they want.

I doubt they go that route. They aren't just going to randomly split the server, and even if they did, people will just transfer to wherever their friends end up or quit the game entirely. It's far more likely they just keep Balmung locked indefinitely. Despite what some insist, I suspect the server is more than capable of handling the population it currently has, but was locked to prevent a crisis scenario.

In a week, or two weeks, everything will be back to how it was last Wednesday.

Yes, the server needed to be locked because it was going to get out of control. But the server itself clearly is just broken because there's a huge population of players on the server trying to do the exact same thing--and even then, it's not a server problem. It's a data center problem.

You can't say it's our fault, either. SE could've locked it any time they wanted. It's not like we, the players, know if we are pushing the server limits. SE was happy to take people's money to transfer to Balmung. They allowed the problem to happen. Because they wanted cash. Now it's their job to make it scale.

I would say both parties have fault in it for SE allowing it and for other players going "oh it really not locked you can just pay to transfer in"

Actually, I think it was more a cultural difference. From what I hear, if restrictions (like character creation restrictions) are on a server, the Japanese take it as "Oh, that server is full, we best leave it to its own devices", vs the American/European approach of "Oh, we can still get in if we transfer, let's do it!" - and I think Square Enix being a Japanese company, they were struggling to understand and get their head round the Western mentality. Bear in mind the JP culture vs Western culture is miles apart from each other. They're so very different. You hear stories quite frequently of extreme "Culture Shock" going from one to the other. Now, are they free of blame? No. But I think a little more understanding is required here.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Fair enough--and as someone who lived in Japan for a good chunk of time, I can tell you the cultural differences are there and I can understand how they may have expected the Japanese customers to respond different to this sort of thing.

That said, Square-Enix is a global company and they market to customers in other countries. This isn't their first MMO rodeo, either. They know that the NA region has a different opinion of rules and things. And I don't entirely believe that they didn't want the money. Take a look at the Mog Station, and the wild prices they'll charge you for some simple emotes and outfits that arguably, should be in the base game.

This is a business, not a charity. They've known Balmung was in trouble for a long time with the property issues. They knew people were continuing to transfer in. It's a little bit too late for the finger to be pointed at the players when they players do not have access to the kinds of resources and knowledge that the developers do. And we shouldn't have to manage that ourselves anyways. We're paying a monthly sub fee for those things to be taken care of and for them to figure out how to make the game work for us.

Did they really though? I wonder. I clearly remember Balmung having a calamity over housing and Yoshida was like "lol everything's fine, we're meeting demand."
