SUMMONER a job? or a reward?

Hi guys, i was reading the last JPGames interview when i came found this:

JPGAMES.DE, Frederick: What about the primal and the summoning?

Yoshida Naoki: The summoning system of FINAL FANTASY XIV is quite different from what you know from other classes, like the summoning classes or the beast master classes. It’s totally different, because to me the primals – Ifrit, Titan, Leviathan or Moogle – are all gods in the game and I don’t want to have several mini-Ifrits on the battlefield, because that doesn’t make sense. *laughs* I really want just one Ifrit in one world and the free company that defeats him gets the license to summon this primal. If that company summons or calls Ifrit, on the whole world the weather will change, so everyone will realize that someone called Ifrit. The world will be like in flames. To me, this is really FINAL FANTASY-like.

For example, if they defeat Ifrit, they have one chance to summon. But once they summon Ifrit, it goes away and someone else needs to defeat him to have another go at summoning him. We will give you more details, but this is how it looks like at the moment – so be excited!
To be honest ive been expecting news about the Summoner job since i started BETA, and i would rly love to see this class on FFXIV, the idea of making everyone know that someone has called him sounds great, but i think theres a special job for that and i dont like to see primals or avatars as a single time reward (till u have the time to beat them again of course).

Please SE just create the SUMMONER class, maybe u can just add special mini primals "Carbuncle kind on ffxi" and save the gods for special stuff or abilities with recast timers, like on FFVII where summons just came to do their thing and after that just depop.

    I want my summonerrrrrrr DX

As I understand it, they're doing both. Only a group cab summon Primals like Ifrit, Moogle and Garuda. But there will be a class that can summon lesser avatars -- I believe Carbuncle was mentioned.

i think primal summon's are going to be a different thing to the summoner class/job. any1 class can summon a primal, and summoners will have there own unique spirits (whatever you want to call them ) that they summon

    ^^aww beat to it :P

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

Sounds like Free companies will get to summon primals. Summons will be new creations, in the french article he uses carbuncle as an example of a summon and not a primal. Sounds like Primal summoning you will only be able to have 1 primal type per server, so one ifrit, one garuda, one titan, per server and so on. To me this sounds like free companies will be summoning primals in large scale events, or else it would be very limiting to have one primal per server for ordinary events. example: oh man that dick elitist free company on selbina has been the only people to summon ifrit for a week and they've just been summoning them for leves (lame). example 2: dude two of the best free companies on selbina summon ifrit and garuda against two other other primals, and it was BA, they took control of the area from them pretty sweet.

Free companies summoning primals I think will be like my 2nd example.

    From the recent Gamerescape interview:

Gamer Escape: It was mentioned that players will be able to call primal when they’ve defeated them. Does that mean we’ll see Summoner and Beastmaster types of classes and jobs?

Yoshida: We call tell you that we’ve decided to put a Summoner class in the game. I want to be a Summoner.

Gamer Escape: There was a tame ability mentioned as well, so does that mean Beastmaster as well?

Yoshida: Yes. The foundation or system for using pets in battle is currently being made. So yes in the future there will be a beast tamer type of class. Again, it’s all about that adding one class means adding more jobs and all these extra things. So all these jobs won’t come at the same time. It’s all about the priorities, but it is on the list and we are making preparations for it.
Like one idea could be for example maybe having a beast tamer class and that job would be like a summoner type of job.

Gamer Escape: So from bunnies to primals then?

Yoshida: Yeah, yeah, I think seeing how far you could take that class or take that job could be really interesting.

Gamer Escape: With these pets and summons.. and I believe with Chocobos it was mentioned there would be some type of growth or a way to level them up. Would this be a long term thing where the pet would gradually level over time or a short term thing where the stats of the pet would reset each time you call it?

Yoshida: Actually it was kind of all put into one thing on that document but there are three different ways to think about this. There’s a buddy system for a companion and then you have a pet system and then the summons. The beast pet would be kind of like in FFXI, where you tame it, use it and then it’s done. So there is no growth with the pet. With Summoner, what we’re thinking of is maybe when you summon for example like Carbuncle… that’s not saying that Carbuncle is coming. It’s just an example! But when you summon it at maybe level 20 there will be certain abilities that it can use and then when the Summoner is level 50, that list will be extended with level 50 abilities. Carbuncle won’t change, it will just be the abilities that it can use. Then you get the buddy system which will be with your Chocobo and your Chocobo will be yours forever. It will have a level and it will power up and grow as you feed it and use it. So yeah there are those three systems. So the confusion there where pets can level up, that’s currently not the case. *They’re just a one time thing. It’s Chocobos that will have the levels.

SMN won't happen. Avatars will be something like FFXIII eidolons...but instead of charging a gauge you will be required an item to summon it.

It will be the "ultimate damage option". IMO it's a tremendous flawed concept...i do would rather having SMN as class/job.

Another reference of how it will be is the Totema System from FFTA...there you have the avatars for SMN but have a major entity that can be summoned only once named totema (racial avatar), that can destroy everything.

IMO, if this was the plan then we should have SMN as they are and use this flawed summon system they are planing for Twelve Deities summoning...this would fit their e-peen urge (seems like it's what is motivating Yoshida right now...if it's not e-peen then it doesn't fit 2.0) and still allow players to have a SMN job like FFXI one (which i loved btw...always prefered having avatars as pet instead os strong spells).

SMN will happen. He's basically guaranteed it is coming over the last few interviews he's given. Actually, wouldn't be surprised if the summoner class was the next class to be introduced since they said they want a pet and caster classes to balance out the DOW/DOM scale.

The only difference seems that SMN in FFXIV will be restricted to "lesser avatars" like Carbuncle, while primals like Ifrit, Garuda, etc. will be a one time conditional summon available to free companies. I think the idea is that these primals have more significance in the FFXIV story so it wouldn't make sense if we were all running around with our own versions of Ifrit.

I also think the chance to only call forth Ifrit or what ever primal is kinda lame.
But I do like the idea of calling him being super powerful and the whole server knowing he has been called out.

Maybe if they take that idea along with being able to summon a mini Ifrit of some kind? That ability would be used by a SMN class. I think that would be neat.
