I'd like summons to have different roles, healing, support, damage, tanking, etc. So in regards to that, the summoner could be a very diverse class being able to call forth different avatars that would be able to fill a verity of roles within a party.

If "Evil Moogle" is considered a Primal, then what about common Moogles? Could we have common Moogles as avatars (like Carbuncle)?

I expounded heavily on summonable moogle roles in the link on my sig. Check it out.

FFXIV has a pretty solid list of primals at the moment, many of which are mainstays - Ifrit, Odin, Titan, Leviathan, Shiva, Bahamut... I think adding those summons would satisfy the Final Fantasy element for the game.

As for the lesser summons, I think this is a great area for the dev team to put their creativity to work. It's alright to borrow from previous FFs, but without injecting anything new into the process, it won't let FFXIV stand out on its own merits in this category. I think the summons is where SE and its concept designers can really shine if they put their minds to it. Just consider, that new summon could become a mainstay down the FF road.

To sum it up: Surprise me.

    For now, we have :

    Primordial Primal : Bahamut

    Cute Primal : Evil Moogle

    Elemental Primals :

    Titan
    Ifrit
    Leviathan
    Garuda
    (Ramuh or Ixion)
    (Shiva or ???)

Odin : Nothing is known about him but he was not annonced to be neither a Primal nor a Avatar

    Avatars : Carbuncle

List of some Common Final fantasy Summons:

    Diabolos
    Fenrir
    Alexander
    Phoenix
    Ixion
    Valefor
    Siren\Ondine
    Gilgamesh
    Atomos

    Cerberus
    Maduin
    Anima
    Yojimbo
    Brynhildr
    Hecatoncheir
    Golem
    Quetzacoalt
    Pandemona (zephir)
    Eden \ Ark
    Magus sisters
    Kujata
    Bismarck
    Asura
    Hydra
    Hades
    Kirin
    Seraph
    Valigarmanda
    Pandemona
    Typhoon
    Doomtrain

Knight of the Rounds : OMGs O_O
    12 Zodiacal Summon of Ivalice

Now if we go with the idea that it may have elemental avatar, Which will you choose ?

    Fire : Phoenix
    Ice : ??? or Fenrir
    Lightning : Ixion
    Water : Siren or ???
    Earth : Hecatoncheir or Golem
    Wind : ?????

But at the end whatever they choose it will be cool

^ no to this.... making any job a hybrid is leading to nerf land. If one class can do all the roles...then a group of 8 summoners would be the best setup in the game. So to balance this...SE will nerf the hell out of the class so the class can act as a "decent" role but will be out shined by classes that are build for that role and in the end will become obsolete because they aren't "better" than any other class. Just look at the mess ffxi's summoner class was.

This time around. Make summoner good at ONE, TWO MAX, roles in a group.... Tank, healer, support, or damage. This way they won't be shunned for not keeping up to par with other classes and can be maximized in their roles.

    I agree with Xai.

While I understand why Yoshida-san wants to have a dramatic MMO feel that retains the essence of the traditional Final Fantasy Summon (like when Ifrit or Shiva or anyone did their Final Attack), limiting it so that only a Free Company can summon them (together), only after beating the Primal to earn the right to summon it seems really limiting to Summoner *as a class* to play everyday.

It then makes "Summoner" feel like a compromised / lesser job (like a "Magic Beastmaster" in some ways).

One's memories of Final Fantasy's most famous Summoners like Rydia or Yuna, etc. *is* of them summoning the famous, awesome, amazing Summons like Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, etc.

If FF XIV's "Summoner" is being able to summon like, "Fire Elemental" or "Carbuncle" (something "small") then it feels like a big letdown.

For myself personally, or even showing it to your friends...

Friend: "Oh cool, you're a Summoner! Show me Bahamut! Shiva!" etc.
You: "Ah sorry, I can't summon any of that. But I can show you... Fire Elemental!" (~_~)

    It's a big letdown.

Perhaps we can summon the Primal in a "spirited form" (or some kind of lesser form) so that we can have an "Ifrit" with some more toned down attacks (kind of like Summons in Final Fantasy XIII (where you can hit "Triangle" "Square" "X" and do various coolish Summon "Basic Attacks"), but the Huge, Epic, Gigantic Summon Astral Flow attack (like Ifrit's Hellfire) is left to this original concept that Yoshida-san is talking about (with that 2 week waiting period)?

@ Kiara. You're absolutely right about that. In the other hand there is a large list of summon monsters. I've not played a Final Fantasy game with all of them yet. Perhaps XIV can be the first to have each and everyone of them. I think that will give Summoners a large arsenal of powers to chose from. This is what I'm wishing for.
