Even if SMN gets the same main-stat-for-all-outputs treatment than healers and RDM are getting, its auxiliary functionality will still be inferior to RDM. RDM has unlimited instant rezes, and can put out its heals in doubled bursts, or use them during downtime to prep any long offensive cast. They will become potentially rotational for RDM during multi-part fights, but even if filler is worse for SMN, their net opportunity costs won't be as low as RDM's.

Right now, I am a summoner; DoT DPS with Ifrit summoned.
My attacking primary skills are:
Ruin, Bio, Bio 2, Miasma
I also drop Shadow Flare when I can
For Ifrit, I have Enkindle, Spur, Rouse, & Sustain
I also have Aetherflow & Bane & Fester
For more damage, I can pop Raging Strikes, which does make the DoT's hurt more

I ALSO have Physick
I off-heal; I can keep myself healed, or help heal others to take some of the load from Healer
I can also rez people during a fight, which means the Healer don't have to stop healing.

I consider myself 'DPS with an Off-Heal'.

Now, I know I have to go Red Mage if I want to continue that..but is it that cut & dried?
I don't want to be THE Healer in a group. I am a backup healer. I want to be DPS first.
I had friends I used to WoW with who forced me into the Healer roll and would blame me when they pulled half a raid, so I LOATHE being a main Healer.

So can I keep being a 'DPS with Off-Heals'? or will RDM's be more healing-focused?

If there's nothing to dps (boss is immune or something) and something to heal, and your MP won't suffer for it, then of course you heal/raise people. If you don't want to offer party support then don't play a job that entails that.

It's the same for every role. At times you can't perform your main role but you have resources to share so of course you help the party. Healers and tanks do damage when there's nothing for them to heal or tank. The main role still comes first though.

Well, a dedicated dps should never need the healer to dps either, but a quick glance over the forums tends to prove otherwise.

Are you people absolutely completely irreversibly stupid? Is this seriously what you think? Take a good long look at the game you pay for, for once. Healer DPS is just supplement, extra damage because why not? It's better than just standing there doing absolutely nothing. Any two DPS worth their salt can down any HW dungeon boss in less than a minute and a half. Any healer DPS just further reduces that time spent. If a healer just stands there when everyone is at full health they're not only wasting their time, but everyone else's.

I can't wait to kick every lazy healer I see in SB dungeons with my trio group. And before you say one of us should heal, honestly the healer role is the most brain dead and non complex role in this entire game in dungeon play, it's boring even with stance dancing. No rotations. No buffs to upkeep. Nothing. Your regens/fairy/shields do everything for you.

I'm not even going to comment on the "offheal" stuff going on in this thread, anyone with one or two brain cells can see that the offheal role doesn't exist in this game.

For me the answer is yes! Red mage matches my aesthetic perfectly and resonates with me personally. That and I will be leveling all magic classes again for the next magic mastery title (I'm assuming there's gonna be one for SB)

while rdm heal is still "good" and used probably once in a blue moon to save their sorry !$!$! , a rdm that is tossing heals is wasting the party time , 1 GCD wasted on vercure even if it dualcasted , is losing damage , if the healers dies u can toss a vercure on tank and rez the healer instantly , but outside that and incoming aoe unavoidable dmg while boss goes inmune (and u use vercure to heal u and proc dualcast ) , oh and soloing i guess :/

Oh don't get me wrong. If a RDM (or if SMN heals become the same) is stuck healing I do not see them surviving or winning a Savage fight but I can certainly see it helping come back from a possible wipe in normal dungeons or even in 24man but I don't ever see them being able to out right replace healers. Then again, I assume if a party knows what they are doing, may be possible to do a 1tank/3dps(1rdm)
