    Actually, that's exactly the problem.
    People are just mislabeling it.

As a healer, once your party no longer needs healing, the only thing left to do with that gcd is to deal damage, or to not be useful to the group.

Every gcd should be used on a skill that's useful for the group.
    Overhealing is not useful.

So, when people see healers not dpsing in content, what they see are healers either overhealing(not useful), or just idling.

The community just has latched onto the 'dps must be done' as the go to problem, when the actual problem is people not using skills and being helpful to the group.

I'm normally fairly tolerant of bad/lazy players, but it really irks me when I run into a scholar in a low level dungeon who just auto-follows the tank and lets their pet do all the healing.

I asked one nicely if they could DPS a little since their hands were totally free thanks to their pet, which apparently offended them enough to make them start swearing at me. The rest of the party didn't like that either, so they ended up getting kicked rather quickly.

But that's up the healer and not to anyone else. Forcing someone to do what you want them to do is not acceptable specially when the healer is actually doing what it was made to do plus is fulfilling his job as a healer.

If the healer wants to dps great if he doesn't no big deal at the end of the day you have dps classes for it.

"A healer is a type of character class in video gaming. When a game includes a health game mechanic and multiple classes, often one of the classes will be designed around the restoration of allies' health, known as healing, in order to delay or prevent their defeat. Such a class can be referred to as a healer."

People seem to misunderstand what the healer role is and what we are actually discussing here.

As it turns out this is not the case because people will votekick you for being lazy. Nothing short of blocking dps skills from being used in dungeons or a drastic shift in encounter design is going to get the community to feel anything other than minor disgust when they see a healer idling for 4+gcd's at a time.

Pretty much this or go back on the "playstyle differences" being a valid kick reason (which I don't think there is a chance in Hades they will do). So don't dps if you don't want to, but accept that you may be kicked as a result.

In that case the person who is bothered about a healer not dpsing is more than welcome to leave the party and join another where the healer does what they "expect" them to do. Or probably the user complaining about it will get kick (which is usually the case) and can form their own party requesting a healer DPS. Just that sinple

It not being mandatory really only means that it is not required that healers do DPS in order for a party to be able to clear a dungeon.

It does not mean it is acceptable for healers to never DPS in dungeons.

Funnily enough I've never had a votekick fail while I personally have only ever been votekicked once so I really feel like the community at large is more on the side of "get this dungeon done faster" than they are on "who cares as long as we clear."

Edit: ALTHOUGH to be honest, I'm pretty sure the actual community at large is really in the "is illiterate" camp and just blindly click yes on anything that pops up in front of them.
