I don't feel like digging up the ridiculously long thread that appeared back when the Chinese outfits first hit the Mogstation, but there were several comments in that thread attacking people who bought the outfits, because we were "supporting SE's overcharging of virtual pixelated items in a subscription-based game" by purchasing them.
If we want to discuss people attacking those with differing opinions, what you're doing right now is considered an attack on me because I apparently "know nothing of the value of a dollar," because I do not share your view that Mogstation items are bad (apparently), and because I'm showing concern for those who attack people "like me" who buy from the cash shop. I do believe that the OP said that this thread was not a mockery, but a genuine thank you. If people perceive it as a mockery, then that's really on them for perceiving it as such.
I want to also add that your comment about those who "know nothing about the value of a dollar" and must be people that have never had money troubles, or had to live paycheck to paycheck, was an awful and terrible generalization, assumption, and an attack. Like I said in response to that before, who are you to assume such things about the people that post here? Who are you to assume that none of us know the struggles of not having any money? Like I said before, I had a period of time where I literally lived paycheck to paycheck. Where I barely made $260 USD a week working a full-time job. Where I had to drop out of school, and was unable to afford going back without taking out ridiculous student loans. Did you know any of that about me? No, you did not. So please, stop assuming that everyone who indulges in a little luxury in the form of pixelated items are just spoiled individuals who don't know anything. :/
It sounds to me like you seem to expect SE to just hand out everything for free just because we pay a monthly subscription. That's not the way life works. I may pay a subscription for a television service, but if I want any add-ons like game channels, movie channels, pay-per-view channels, super mega-ultra 4K HD channels, I will be expected to pay extra for them--extra for optional shiny items. Just like I would expect SE to expect me to pay extra for any optional shiny items. Businesses want to make money. I am certain that if you had a business, you would want to make some sort of profit off of it.Does not matter if SE is a business, with what they do to the pricing and how they handle inventory, it is a shady one at best. Why is my sub doubled for making up for a shortcoming of the game and have overpriced glams on top of it? Do you realize how high the cost is for retainers? on legacy for 6 months the retainers cost more then the sub itself.
Others have said before that the cash shop directly funded the development of the EU Data Center. However, this tends to get overlooked, and instead people just want to focus on how the money goes into SE's pockets instead. Maybe not all the funds go back into FFXIV, but at least some went into those servers and that data center. Some probably also went into the NA server relocation, even if that was met with a lot of backlash as well. All I can do is hope that my buck will go back into making FFXIV and extra content for it. In-game, and optional. SE has to pay it's employees somehow, and I'm sure they get quite a pretty penny via subscriptions to FFXI and FFXIV alone, among sales for physical items like artbooks, the lore book, sountracks, etc.. But I think it's a little unreasonable for them to just be expect to hand out everything for free. Really, businesses don't need to give out anything for free. They could make us pay for everything related to FFXIV with real money. They could have just added the Songbird attire and emote to the cash shop rather than to the Little Ladies' Day event.
If you are not buying items from the cash shop, paying for additional retainers, name change services, server transfers, etc., then how does this affect you? Are you trying to be a hero and spokesperson for all of those who oppose the cash shop? I'm not really sure what you're trying to accomplish here.We are overpaying for items on a sub model!!! on top of renting space. If SE wants high short term gains but huge backlash in the long run, well that is a good way to ruin a business in the long run now isn't it?
Has it ever occurred to you that, perhaps, the OP made the thread to try and combat all the negative threads that litter the General Discussion subforum? I don't claim to know what the OP's intentions were with this thread outside of what their opening post said, which said that this thread was not to be intended as any sort of mockery. But if you insist on viewing it that way, be my guest.Same can be said to you and the TC, " Have your opinions. State them. Stand by them. But please. You don't have to shove them down everyone's throat, and reach post cap on two separate accounts just to continue arguing about them. And I'm saying this in the most polite way I can. " That is exactly what I see when people make revenge threads like this, shoving opinions down people's throat and using the "SE is a business" to do so and the "they are not needed so it is ok to overprice them, I can afford them you can't hahaha"
You may disagree with the "they're optional items" view points and arguments others make, but that doesn't mean they aren't true. They are optional; they're not needed in any way for you to progress through the game, they're cosmetic (and the few items that have stats...people would be foolish to actually use them as substitute gear in the first place). No one is forcing anyone to buy them. SE is not holding a gun to your head and demanding you buy the Fuga Attire, "or else". Why are you acting like these items skinned your puppy? Why are you acting like a business shouldn't aim to make money? I really do not understand you.
Shoving opinions down everyone's throat is what you're doing: repeatedly posting them in response to everyone that disagrees with you in even the slightest. And using two accounts to do so with. Doesn't two accounts require paying two subscription fees? Why are you complaining about the cost of items if you're paying two subscriptions? Because, if you are, apparently paying double subs has some appeal and/or value to you. No one here is questioning what you do with your money. Why continue to question what others do with theirs?
If you want to continue to assume that I'm "just ok" with "shady business practices," then be my guest. I can't change your opinion. I know mine, and I know what I agree and disagree with. At the end of the day, I don't lose sleep over people not agreeing with me. I simply just eventually go on about my business.
