The point is that they left Aymeric's interactions as ambiguous so you can draw your own conclusions, obviously you chose to believe it wasn't romantic, other people chose to believe it was, this is how representation should be done. You can choose to believe Haurchefant had a thing for your male character, or you can choose to believe he just liked to joke around a lot and you were just a close friend.
