I don't care about seeing people punished, but I do care about seeing people have their time wasted by people that were not responsible enough to think, and it is especially upsetting when those people are so-called mentors.

The amount of times I've waited in a queue as a DPS for an half and hour, only to have someone jump ship, and have everyone be disheartened, its not ok, and I don't really care if the people causing it are upset that they have be more thoughtful about other people, because they're not there to deal with the fall out.

This is a game, yes we play for fun, but when you disregard others, as if their experience isn't important, well, you're a problem.

People can play the game without being a mentor, so if they're not going to do it, and cause problems instead, I don't feel bad if they get theirs.

Pro-tip: you're not all that special just because you had to wait in a dps queue, everyone sits in a queue at some point. Inherently, people play video games to have fun, and this they shouldn't feel trapped in a duty they done want to run. The only obligation anyone has to their party is to either play courteously and to the best of their ability or leave that party.

If someone leaves the party, they can be replaced. Either by another random or you can do what I do and request someone from a linkshell or your FC. No one who is playing this game is being paid, therefore they do not inherently owe any other player their time.

Actually when you choose to be mentor you are agreeing to be held to higher standard of behavior. You willing take on this responsibility. So be responsible. nobody is forcing them to queue as a mentor.

The mentor stipulations boil down to
    Offer gameplay advice
    Be polite
Invite new players to NN and answer their questions

That's all. Also you can be a mentor and not have queued for mentor roulette. There are mentors who aren't even pve mentors. OPs example listed Brayflox Longstop. That can be found in leveling roulette. So perhaps they weren't queueing as a mentor. I know people who leave their crown on 24/7. They answer questions when asked and that's it. So they should be punished more severely even if they weren't actively mentoring? Because what? They've somehow personally offended you by leaving?

If they didn't queue as a mentor then fine. Shit happens blacklist if you want. If you've seen them doing this multiple times try to report if you want. I'm speaking of they are specifically queue as or running with the mentor tag. If you are representing then represent.

That higher standard is defined by SE, not players, and staying in duties is not included there. You guys keep trying to turn the mentor system into something it's not, mentors are no more than regular players like you but with an extra chat channel to help people.

As long as this remains a game and mentors aren't being paid real money this remains a volunteer job that anyone can drop at any moment. You're free to sign up to the mentor system and help outnumber those "bad mentors", but you can't force them to play the way you want them to.

It would be lovely if we were all friendly, helpful and considerate.
Sadly some of us - thankfully the minority - are not any of those things. And, given the choice, I'd rather they left at the start of a run than spoil it for the rest just because it's a dungeon they hate. Which is the most likely outcome if the punishment for leaving is too harsh.
I never ever queue for the Trials roulette because I'm not willing to do Titan Ex unsync-ed. I don't think people should queue for anything if they're not prepared to endure every single one of the possible outcomes. If I got Titan, I'd bail fastest than ... something real fast! So I don't do trials. But there's really nothing I can do to hold another person to the standard I choose for myself. Whether they're a mentor or not, I can't force anything upon them. And I refuse to spoil the rest of my game time by getting mad about that.

Oh uh just some info that might be helpful for you.

As of this post Titan EX is not in the Trial Roulette. So don't miss out on the tome bonus for it! You can safely queue for it.

Trial Roulette only has Normal and Hard mode Primals. No Extreme versions in there; they are only in Mentor Roulette.

When you click on a roulette if you look in the adjacent window and scroll down it will show what duties are in that roulette.

It actually doesnt even include ifrit, titan, and garuda normal. Those are in the leveling roulette.

No one is going to put a stranger on an online video game above their real life family, work, and friends.

This may sound harsh to you but it is the plain honest truth and the faster you come to accepting this the better.

Say your mother shows up unannounced sometime when in a mentor roulette and is upset and needs to talk to you do you expect people to go "lolno, forget your mother, you are in a FFXIV DF group as a mentor, their experience is important even more important than your mother, you can't leave. Tell your mom to get lost and come back later"

(btw this example actually happened to me, my mom called me unexpectedly while crying her eyes out and I had to leave the duty to talk to her)

The plain honest truth is you do not know why people who left groups left, you can throw assumptions on why all over the place but you still will never know the truth unless they openly say why or you ask them. So, are you actually practicing what you preach and being thoughtful about others who may have to leave for personal reasons?

Like Mavrias said unless you are paying them money then no one owes you any of their time. I am going to leave duties when I feel I need to; mentor or not because this game is not my job. I am not being paid to play it....I PAY to play it. The expectation that any other player owes you their time is very wrong.

I am only volunteering my time as a mentor so if my family, friends, or work needs me unexpectedly sorry but I will leave DF runs to attend to more important matters in real life and no one owes you an explanation for their personal real life matters either since it is technically none of your business. Accept it and move on. Your witch hunt will only make your queues even longer.
