And we now have PLENTY of short hairs for females, we don't need anymore unisex hairs. We're in dire need of gender-specific hair again.

And here's the irony: A good half of the recently added hairstyles were, in fact, gender specifically designed for females:


I think it's actually a 50:50 split between male and female hairs for the type 0 ones. And I'd say Trey's and Nine's hairstyles are actually more popular among females than some of the female styles.

Truth be told, I don't think we have had "any" hair designed as unisex so far. The long braided ponytail and the pompadour were both runner ups in the hairstyle design contest in the male category and the prior is more commonly worn on women. I have yet to see the pompadour and afro worn seriously at all >_>

The issue here is now if someone complains that there's too much long hair, and not enough short hair it'll just be another one of these situations.

A simple solution would be to change it each patch, one patch we will get long hairstyles, the other patch we will get short hairstyles. One patch we will see feminine hairstyles and the other patch we will get masculine hairstyles. They can keep the hairstyles uni-sex this way, but this would mean that some patches will introduce hairstyles that might not fit a characters"s race or gender. An example with 4.0 we will get the two hairstyles that the Warrior of Light Monk and Samurai has in the trailer, both of those hairstyles are more masculine then feminine. They could introduce in 4.1 long hairstyles that are more feminine then masculine and just alternate between the two styles each patch or add two masculine hairstyles and two feminine hairstyles.

The 1# thing that I want to see is just less short hairstyles, I want to see more long hairstyles (they could start with the Samurai haistyle, the one that the new Miqo'te Samurai has in the new art), more stylish hairstyles and the most important part, I want to see the hairstyles that were submited in the hairstyle contest. I hate how the hairstyle that I wanted for my character got added to the game, but Khloe got it instead.

I'd love more braids or buns. I stick to short hair partially to avoid clipping, but I think there are only four five full updos at the moment (the bun, the wedding hairstyle, Minfilia's hairstyle, the twin buns for lala's and the crown braid that's elezen only). A traditional japanese-syle updo would be neat for Stormblood, but I'd just like more in general.

More hair is always great, wish they would come with some accessories as well, maybe even some that you can separate dye from your actual hair color. Some that you might even can adjust, we can do it with the visors, so there shouldn't be an issue to do it with already existing hair. But and I don't wanna offend somebody, however I personally wouldn't like to see hairstyles that have chopsticks in them, unless as explained above, it gives me the option to hide them, then I am all for it.

If you want to believe that, your call. It doesn't change my point: Even if they were doing gender specific hair (again), those cuts fall in the gender specific female category, as is evidenced by being designed for purely female characters. So you'd get those kinds of styles anyway, regardless of your ideas of feminity and masculinity.
The cuts you'll be missing are the ones in the male category. And considering how much more effort it takes to create a new style as opposed to adjusting an existing one, you'd likely not even be getting more styles in return.

As such, I find it a bit ridiculous to bash "unisex" hair design. We don't have any hair specifically designed for unisex. So all you achieve by asking for gender specific hair is to lose access to the ones designed for males, regardless of how feminine or masculine you think they are (And the same goes the other way).

And thus, I'd ask people to just ask for the kinds of hairs they want to see and leave gender out of it.

Gonna try this again now that I've hopefully stopped being a dimwit (though I get I'm making a losing argument here):

The way that this stuff works, despite the fact that it's slowly changing, is that there's unisex stuff (in this context, short haircuts that "fit" men and women) and feminine stuff. Your example about two runners-up being added is a perfect indication of this: Do you see any female runners-up added to the game? No, because most of them are distinctly feminine and "can't" be unisex, so they add hairstyles that can be - various short pixie cuts and bobs that aren't "feminine" and therefore are unisex. Obviously the devs adhere to this, as we don't have a bridesmaid dress for males yet we have a tuxedo for females.

All I'm saying is that I want more hair that fits into the "feminine" style (long hair, curls, braids, buns, blah blah blah), whether it's for both genders or not, instead of the purely unisex (as per societal standard) hairstyles we've gotten almost exclusively for the past couple years, besides the Queen, Rem, Deuce, and bun hairstyles.

Obviously I shouldn't have used "unisex" in the first place and just "short hair" (or just left it at the first comment I made...) but it's too late to do anything about that now, so there's the stupid line of thought that resulted in my asinine comment.
