    It varies by server. I'm a mentor and I'll let you know it's discouraging when people think a crown is an easy ticket. Here is why;

    I.The majority of player have their own style and unless they have experience in life mentoring/supervising/a bit of common sense it makes it a great challenge.

    II.Majority of players think they know everything and are close minded to advice or tips. They take suggestions as a negative comment and are too delicate. ( I blame society for wanting to give everyone a trophy for just trying )

    III. People who take mentor status 60%-80% mainly do it for the bonus.

    IV. Human nature dictates " Knowledge is power, and power drives a man Mad" Players depend more on visual aspects than actual experience. They don't want to admit fault or take responsibility for their actions being that in their own little world they are right everyone else is wrong.

    Solution:

    I.Your Stall is the sprout LS that you can join and ask help.

    II. Communicate most Mentors will help and have patience if people actually ask for help.

    III. Accept the fact that there are trolls out there.

    IV. Make a connection on well known Mentors and have them as a friend or LS. If you can't find one at random ask for assistance.

    Overall; Communication is the key. Players pay their monthly fee so are free to play however they like. Just like in life, people have a very weird concept of what common sense is and fail to take responsibility. You can only be an innocent bystander or help in your own way.

    As a personal tip;

    Find an LS or FC that has a decent reputation. (tank or healer community mainly)

    Black list people who leave or are just trolls.

    Party with people who you trust and rotate roles to get things done right away.

    Be realistic, unlike FFXI this game is designed to allow players to solo play more, yet the world isn't perfect.

    If you have experience and your explanations make sense speak up in a friendly way. You will notice that when things go south people can turn the tide by speaking up and taking a chance.

    This is why we need to remove the character limit on the forums. It is 2017 there is zero reason for this artificial chokehold on free speech

    This is a tangent, but ...

    The "best" way around the character limit is to type everything all out, find out that you're at the limit, cut most of the post out and immediately edit it back in.

    That avoids the issue of some response while typing in the edit.

    If a mentor queues for the mentor roulette, there's no excuse for leaving. Don't like the dungeon? Don't queue for roulettes. Bad players? Help them out, that's why you are a mentor

    There should be a severe penalty for mentors leaving mentor roulette since they are abandoning players that could need his help. I'd say getting locked from that roulette until next daily reset should be enough

    What if you had to leave, like a real life emergency happened? In that case, I doubt you would be worried about not being able to do a roulette that gives little bonuses

    Which, if that were the case, I suppose I could agree on the sentiment.

    I'm more concerned with the general negativity people feel for others that play the game. I'm not disagreeing that there is some concerning behavior that other players display but the current penalties are as fair as Yoshida and his team can make them without they themselves turning into Iron Fists. In the end, a majority of these threads and reactions end up looking like revenge fantasies more than actual proposals for making players more "considerate." Just like the ESRB ratings on MMO's there is only so much that can be regulated before it starts looking like policing.

    On a sidetracked side note ... these types of threads always make me wonder how behaved or ill behaved the community would be if it employed an open world PvP concept. I realize less people would play because of this but then you could literally penalize other players for misconduct in dungeon runs by killing them and stealing their shit. "How 'bout that for a penalty, muthafu--"

    Not a serious idea mind you, just a fun thought.

    The mentor system is designed so that veteran players can assist newer players. End of story. If you do something that hinders a new player such as ditching a dungeon simply because you don't like it then there needs to be a penalty. Let players report mentors with it's own report category and then SE can investigate. If the behavior is shown to be somewhat consistent smack the player down. Time for people to be accountable for their actions again. If you don't want the "responsibility" of a mentor don't become one. If you are doing it only for the bonus then you have chosen to suck it up and need do what is expected of a mentor. Get smacked down once and continue to behave badly they should remove any acces to being a mentor and strip you of any earned rewards.

    You can't force players to stay in dungeons - mentor or not. To increase the penalty won't help and to doom the whole mentor-system just because of a minority of bad mentors is silly.

    The whole systems relys of the help of other ppl aka Veterans/Mentors. As a reward they get some glamour/mounts/the pleasure to help. If you increase the penalty Veterans/Mentors may think it's not so tempting anymore if they have to leave and get a 90mins penalty.

    Guy had an IRL emergency and leaves as his dungeon queue starts.
    Happens to be a mentor? Death to mentors everywhere!

    If there was truly a real life emergency then I think most players would be like np problem take care of whatever. However I do think there is enough of a problem with bad mentor behavior to realize something should be done to protect the integrity of the system. Just accepting the bad behavior of some just because is crap. You wouldn't just ignore you ignore your children's bad behavior you would correct it. Same principle applies to all facets of life in a society. So why should people just accept here?

    Mentors are players too. Sometimes you get Sastasha 10x in a row and you're just sick of it.
