Provide a warning about garden crops dying during extended server downtime

Simple solution is for plants not to die period but you still have to tend them to maturity to harvest. Real life can happen like a pc or game system blows, people get sick, forgot, emergencies, uh, real life...remember that? . This is a game you are supposed to enjoy and the player should not be penalized for coping with life's issues while worrying about, "OMG, my ffxiv plants!"

...it's not SE's fault if your plants die because, for whatever reason, you do not log on even when the servers are up. It's not SE's job to take care of your plants for you if they're not the ones preventing you from going online. At most you could argue they should take care of the plants when the servers are down because they are literally preventing you from being able to do it yourself.

I like this idea, especially with the length of time it takes to grow some plants. Have them do the purple fog if they've halted the growth process, but don't let them die.

I don't like this idea because it would really take away the need to even take care of your plants, which for me is a lot of the joy in gardening. Preventing plants from withering when servers are down, that's fair. Preventing plants from withering at all? Like, may as well ask SE to plant the seeds for you too?

You'd still need to tend to them to advance growth. I'm not saying plant them and then come back 10 days later without touching them to fully grown pluckable plants.

That's basically giving the plant for free. One of the core things about gardening is the fact that you have to maintain the garden to make sure plants stay alive. Take that away and gardening basically becomes a really long retainer venture. You really want that?

I get my enjoyment from gardening out of crossing and growing, not being held hostage to daily watering routines. If I miss watering a day, it would still require me to water it to start up the timer again, making me wait longer to get the crops.

In what way? I said daily and that's how often you have to tend to them to keep up with it. It doesn't take long but it does require you to login every single day.
