I am always wary whenever someone says, "it can't be that hard". :P

I suspect there are networking issues with having cross datacentre grouping. I might be wrong but cant you only group with people within your on Datacentre? If it was easy it would probably have made sense to make things cross datacentre before now since it would greatly increase the pool of available players for queues and grouping.

If they allowed cross DC play, this problem would be vastly reduced and those EU servers would fill up faster.

Finding a proper server for you and global friends to play the game on shouldn't be a game in itself.

That would lead to almost exactly the same issue as playing on a different DC. Only now you would have people at wildly different latency entering an instance on a server without knowing what they would get until actually connected. " Awesome! I got a 32 ping to the instance in Cali...everybody else is connected from finland at 400..crap!"

Who knows, mind you, why can't we simply choose which DC we wish to do our instances on....it can't be THAT hard can it?

Yes it can be... I'm pretty sure the only existing connection between the datacenters is the lobby server, the physical datacetner servers are in completely differen places on the world, so if you were to play with someone from Chaos while on Aether would you not only get the ping of chaos, you would get the ping of connecting to Aether and from there to Chaos, and if you throw in some japanese datacenter too and make a group of players from all those, you would probably need a new server they all connect to, which means adding another physical server location, and more people complaining about ping, and the costs for those servers needs to be covered too... I mean, I'm no professional in tech stuff, but it's not hard to understand that it is indeed THAT hard.

Or wait, actually, you already can choose a DC to do instances in! You just have to have your character on a server there.

Please stop confusing devs for evil little fairies who only don't do things because they enjoy to see the community suffer, and not because it's too hard / too expensive / wouldn't be able to work out as planned and thus isn't worth it.
