Hiya!

I'm on Balmung at the moment, but since the NA data centre relocation I've been contemplating a move over to an EU server. How is the community on Odin? I have heard mixed things and though the ping I am playing on is making the game very difficult to play well, I'm anxious about moving because I can be a bit socially anxious :/

I moved from Balmung to Phoenix quite a while ago, and met some nice people there. They're all more into taking things slow and not caring about messing up and ping and all that. I actually met quite a few of them outside the game by now as well. Obviously, not all of the community is like that, so now that some people are taking a (forced) break, I haven't done many dungeons on my main, but I've started levelling an alt. Fun going through the story again.

I can vouch for this. Odin is the unofficial "raiding" server of Chaos, and has the sort of playerbase you'd expect from that. Phoenix is a lot more casual and laid back, and it's generally a friendly community. It's one of the higher population servers to boot, and I often see RPers around (if that's what you're interested in.)

Dislike: People who give crap about how other play or bail on a PF groups cause of one wipe. People who lie about who they are and those who make you promises but then don't keep them. People who give you crap over something and then do the same thing themselves but then don't expect to get it in return. People meet who claim to want a game relationship but then break up for no reason or disappear without warning and don't explain why.

Game Goals: To have fun build a good FC and get a house in the new ward for it, Farm birds and help others who are interested in them to get theirs, Maybe finally clear PoTd been slacking on that lol.

Marriage Goal: Find me a friend/partner who'll be around as often as they can and have fun with them doing anything really farms, clears, or just messing around with old content or just sitting somewhere and talking or just to be together.

Well, many of those things are true as Odin is a bit of a mixed bag. :P

As Lunaxia mentioned, Odin is usually considered as the unofficial EU raid server. And that's certainly not wrong; there's always a lot of end-game raiding and farming going on, and those people expect you to know the fights.

That doesn't mean they're uptight or anything though. I've often found them very friendly and patient, even when some new guy screws up and needs pointers.
Of course you'll find some bad apples here, kind of to be expected from a server as big as Odin, but those are (thankfully) still in the minority.

However, I'd personally say a "raid server" is not an accurate label for Odin, as you'll still find many people who do little or no raiding.
You may not find a very casual player often, but there are still many, many people who are laid back and playing at their own pace. And they're all just as friendly as the rest.

Honestly, I'd recommend to at least make an alt here to feel out the community yourself. We're such a mixed mess that we're generating mixed opinions, as you mentioned yourself. :P

Thanks to everyone who gave me a bit of insight on the EU server community! I made a few alts on various servers and did some poking around, but I didn't get the friendliest vibe anywhere...but then again, they were low-level alts in the main "vanilla" ARR cities. Maybe I'm just being weird and letting my social anxiety get the best of me, heh.

My Interests: FFXIV Anime, More FFXIV, Star Wars, and even more FFXIV. Have I mentioned FFXIV?

Play Schedule: I tend to be on between 8am and 11am on weekdays. Weekends the time varies depending on what I have going on. This will be changing though soon to being on weekday evening EST when I start my new job on the 30th, so basically after 6PM EST then during the week.

My Player type: Pretty casual. I like to hang out and have fun. I just don't have the time really to be hardcore

Character Gender: Female character, Guy IRL.

Other players gender: Doesn't really matter. I'm more comfortable around women than I am around other guys, though.

My Race:Au Ra

Preferred Race: Not Lalafell (that's just creepy, no pedo!). I do like Felezen though. Long legs are yummy. :P

Main Classes: DRK, or any tank class, but DRK mainly.

Dislikes: Dishonesty and emotional manipulation. And sports. Don't really like sports, so don't expect any deep conversations on that (I'll still talk about it if it's what you want to talk about). But I'm pretty easy going and a lot of things don't particularly bother me.

Game Goals: To have fun (isn't that why we're all playing after all?)

Goals for the marriage: Someone to hang out with and have a good time with. Definitely would like to find someone to run Stormblood content with. Needs meh a BFF to enjoy my time/game with.
