The whole ATK = high-end / STR = low-end was a theory that someone had and has been debunked.

One of our LNCs has been doing some STR vs ATK testing on L50 mobs and demonstrated over hundreds of autos and WSs that both STR and ATK can affect min and max damage, and that, point-for-point, STR is more valuable than ATK (against L50 mobs). However, in materia, ATK is available at close to a 2:1 ratio. Our testing is still in progress, so I haven't added any definitive notes about what's better than what.

The theory was that ATK raises the peak, while STR "stabilizes" your damage in general making it less random giving you better numbers overall while attack is keeping your numbers going upward. I think I said that right...it's probably a bad example but for ifrit my doomspikes got better results than when I stacked STR. It was maybe 35ish fights so it's not really enough to give raw evidence but I could see the difference. That said, looking forward to you guys findings on this subject because I really want to know how these stats work.

So upgraded my Hart from NQ to +1, my doomspike crits went from 750ish-820ish to 785ish-957 on Ifrit. Kind of amazing how just 5 extra base damage to weapon boosted my top damage.

Life Surge heals damage back on weaponskills as well as normal attacks, and also stacks with Bloodbath. Handy when soloing, but that's probably not the point of the guide.

Someone else on another forum reminded me of that fact and how it might be helpful for people new to the Ifrit fight. I'll add a little note about it, but I still think it sucks. Bloodbath II heals for ~90% of damage dealt, cross-class with Axemanship.

How does Dex work into the damage calculation? I read somewhere it affects crit. True?

We're not sure exactly how DEX affects anything at the moment.

Would it be worth it to put together a heavy Dex set, e.g.:

    Complete Control I & II +15 Dex
Cobalt Coif (Red) +2 Dex (Or Woolen Turban w/ +3 Dex)
3x Amythest Rings (or 4x Fluorite) +21 Dex (+20 Dex)
    Tortoiseshell Scale Mail +6 Dex
Cobalt Plated Jackboots (Red) +3 Dex
    Cobalt Vambraces (Red) +3 Dex
    Raptorskin Subligar +4 Dex

That would be ~+53 Dex, Would that be enough to test the impact it has?

Also, I think Steel Tassets might be worth mentioning for waist slot. It's less defense than the other belts being only level 32, but it's the only belt with + attack, and seems like a viable option compared to Penance, for now.
