Will undercutting be a severe issue once SE launches their FF14 chat/retainer app?

Why are you more worried about botting via that app, than botting via the game already? It's not like anything is currently preventing a market board Bot from undercutting if it's developer wanted it to. I mean, we already faced the army of 'bot crafters and sellers, how will it be any worse, or different with this app?

One good reason the app will be more bot-friendly is that you won't need a PC running the game in order to run it, a mobile app. is far more convenient to have running 24/7.

Yeah this app is a really really really bad idea. They should add it to japanese servers only.
Didn't they already learn from what people were doing with the amazon codes? People can't be trusted

I'm sorry, but what does an app that allows the user to make changes to their retainers and items they are selling, interact with their FC and chat in general have to do with Amazon pre-order codes?

SE doesn't see it that way if they're intending to have premium subscriptions be a thing for this new app they're cooking up.

I was late so I skimmed the documents, I must have missed that :O. Question, what is "premium subscription"? Like to FFXIV, or to the app itself? If to FFXIV what defines premium, do you mean "Standard" type that offers more characters, or the amount of time subbed in one whirl? If standard, Legacy = Standard for the case of counting.. maybe? lol

Finally, ugh. Haha. I mean on a personal level I'd like to fiddle with my market board sure, but knowing apps - especially if they slap it on android, it'll be significantly easier to make a market board bot (probably significantly harder to get caught using it too). iOS isn't immune, but android is packaged nicely for fiddling lol.

Q39: Could you please let us know the progress on the app where you can chat with your friends and FC members?

A39: With the app you will be able to access retainers without actually logging into FFXIV. Instead of the app just being simply used for chatting, we’re developing the app where if you pay, players will have access to other features, such as accessing the market board.

We’re currently testing the app, and it looks like we may be able to release it around end of the year, or the beginning of the next year. We apologize for taking so long on this, but we’re developing the app where all the FFXIV players can use.

I would assume, you pay for the app, and not XIV itself. Basically, the app is free until you either opt for the premium subscription or a "paid" license, and the paid option unlocks more things to do with the app, while the basic, free version only covers chatting with others and that's it.

Given my experience with the old WoW one, I'd wager that there will be an increase, but nowhere near noticeable from now. As in, you'd be convincing yourself of a molehill being a mountain sort of situation. Undercutting is just part of economics. A free market can't exist without the potential for cheaper goods by sellers wanting to push their wares. If someone is willing to make or use a 3rd party program to do it, then they're absolutely already doing it now. This means you'd see no reasonable difference that you can prove. Reporting for such behavior does practically nothing in this game anyway (since if they even remotely use their brain, they won't get caught no matter how many reports are made). Likewise, they probably have a backup plan in the case of an AH account or character getting banned.

I used to linger around botting forums for older games and test some programs from time to time. The majority of long-term botters aren't as dumb as some might think. I'd imagine it's even easier now. Given what I've been told by GMs while talking to them about reports I've made, their detection system/methods on the servers are pretty archaic. Basically, don't fret too much on the matter. You may think you notice something negative, but realistically speaking, the odds aren't very high that it'd be because of the apps existence.

It's supposed to be a premium service to access the MB or other premium functions, so yeah, probably like $5 a month. I would hope that it's a "free" app though, at least in the sense of the chat function.

Derp lol, thank you mate. Yeah I just blindly flew by that one. Even though I "read" that page XD. Another monthly fee would be annoying.. but I didn't think the full app would have been free either I guess (imagined like $2.99 - $7.99 or some odd one time purchase, but it'll be funny if they price it as much as one of their full ported games .. XD). Am concerned about the market board still, but I understand they want to give it some worthwhile features to encourage purchases.

I don't have anything as grand as market board checking (that's a pretty powerful feature), but perhaps they could look into Squadron management, Retainer missions, maybe some sort of very small but nice bonuses (free venture a day), gardening (water/fertilizer - although maybe put a cap on the fertilizer so its like can do it twice a day on all plants but all the fertilizer is free too), still feel like if chocobo raising was made more than it is now (Golden Saucer breeding made me a little sad, cause I wanted to look at my chicklet and stuff lol) that could be something advantageous but not destructive to balance with training/engagement/tamagotchi sort of feel, FC airship missions, stable cleaning.

Still thinking we'll see a lot faster undercutting and prevalence if they add market control into the app, of course it happens already but lol.. Should be fairly easy to do, and fairly difficult to prevent/effectively punish. Maybe they'll do some grand thing that makes it just as similar challenge to do as you would have now, and so you'll only have some people doing it still, I'm not certain but if its just basic I would wager it'll be a lot easier, and if it's easier it will be more likely more know it (lower barrier to entry = more).

Well it's been in development for many years now.
I think people were just looking to chat with their FC and shells on the go, and SE just kept wanting to add more and pushing it back.
Either way, it's clearly been a very low-priority development, I can't imagine too much in other departments was lost due to it.
