It makes no sense to be levi. Titan, Ifrit and this creature has been in the files since day 1, Ifrit stayed same and so far so has Titan, their scales are massively appart, it wouldnt make sense to start referring this creature as Leviathan then come the day you fight him and hes the little sea creature we see in the files at the moment? You'd not only be pissed you're not fighting what you expected to, but also a little confused how hes transformed by about a 10th of his size and looks completely different.

I also dont remember devs referencing him as Leviathan directly, in the "Making of" videos he is referenced as the Sea Serpent.

The most badass monster of the game doesn't have to be a summon primal... It usually never is in FF games lol.
It would be a pretty strange red-herring to make this sea serpent not Leviathan. Most people naturally referred to him as Leviathan, and I'm sure devs have too.

But then again, Primals need to be summoned. So for the serpent to be Leviathan, it does in fact cause a plot hole, because then we are forced to ask "who summoned him?"

People refer to him as Levi because he has Levi characteristics, doesn't mean he is though, they are just misinformed and dont read the storyline where it clearly states a Sea Serpent, and they also dont listen to the devs who clearly say Sea Serpent. (Least they did before Yoshi). I dont remember Yoshi or new devs referencing him as being Leviathan so will have to find a quote on that to verify it.

He is likely not summoned, could just come out to see "Threat Level", in the cutscene you fight all the Squids and its very stormy etc, so he jumps out but no wave, probably knows its safe. But then when there is canon balls being fired down into Sea he gets a lil pissed haha. And Jumps out to attack.

But there were no Sahagins around during the opening cutscene, or was there...

Maybe the plot twist at the end of the game is that the evil sahagin onboard was in fact... YOU.

Its easy to redesign and make the model less geometrical though, you don't need to fundamentally change the look of something to simplify it in 3D terms.

Also, Rainbow Peiste, Batraal, and Morbols are all pretty detailed models and SE had no difficulty animating those, so I think it's clutching at straws to say the engine cannot handle it.

They enlarged Toads, it didnt mean they had to go back and reanimate it for a large size. My point being: I don't think the size makes too much of a difference.

And you can have like 20 rainbow peistes on your screen at once, all moving around separately, in a non-instanced environment too, and your compter doesnt explode because of that, so it stands to reason that you therefore should be able to handle a single mob with much less complexity than 20 individual peistes on your screen at once.
