ehm the "sea monster" from the intro.. its just not only appearing in the intro... later on in the Limsa Storyline
And well.. it comes out of the ocean, flies into the sky.. and summons a big tsunami.
this is definatley the power of a god (leviathan!) thats what levi does even in FF8.
which you can see here:
(skip to 6:16 to see it)
and i think too, that leviathan got redesigned by the new team.. because the leviathan from the "old team" which we see in the movie clip above, is too untypical looking for a Final Fantasy Leviathan.
Yoshida wanted FFXIV to look much more Final Fantasy like, like it was before.
the two artworks seem to show, that leviathan will "glow" at some parts, when he is in battle mode. like the land dragons in Ul'dah for example turning into red glowing. or you can attack different parts of his body.. and you can slah off the "horns" off him.
well problem solved?![]()

I'd agree with Tonkra Tbh, I would think its a redesign.. (and as much as i love the other modle i think it fits better for a FF).
But I really would hate to see the modle lost,
I'm sure a use can be found for it, as after all the Gridania opening dosnt have a Primal so it could just be a uber powerful NM or a young smaller Dimi god like Primal?
Same goes for the Tree thing.. Good route for additional dungeons in both cases..
An a underwater one in 2.0 for the LL one.?
We're not really expecting to see Leviathan till at least 2.0 - the beasty didn't show up on the map where Mr Moogle and Garuda did.
Version 2.0 will be seeing a graphical system overhaul. The main quoted reason we're being offered a complimentary gender & race change is because avatars will inevitably look somewhat different under the new engine and they want people to have the opportunity to create their character's appearance in a way they like under the new system.
Like that or not, it suggests the graphical system will affect a whole range of things. I suspect the devs are using this change as an opportunity to create a new in-game model of Leviathan to sit inside the new graphical system rather than just pointlessly expand the CG version they currently have in cutscenes as well. If so, that's our draft right there.
That kind of makes sense but also suggestions that Version 2.0 is a downgrade. Also, I doubt that the new graphics engines will alter the way the game-models look, it will probably just effect shaders and colours and textures, and that's why we will be allowed to go back and alter our characters. We're not really expecting to see Leviathan till at least 2.0 - the beasty didn't show up on the map where Mr Moogle and Garuda did.

I'm just sad to see the FFXIV Leviathan we all know and love replaced with this generic-looking one. There's just no imagination and creativity with the new one.
Hmm well but the old one (like we see in the above video i posted) seems to "normal" to me to fit into the Final Fantasy Universe.
read the first comments in this thread. people thought leviathan in the intro of FFXIV was just a regular special mob, and not levi. it was not recognized as leviathan.
the "old" leviathan looked also more like a "Koi fish" to me.
and Yoshida mentioned, that he thoughts FFXIV looked to uncharacteristic for an FF.. he wants to put much more real "Final fantasy" into it.
although i think you're not that false with your opinion. the new artwork looks like a very "standard" leviathan look, well i think he does look like in FF8

Never heard anyone complain about Leviathan before.
Most people seemed impressed, as I recall.
Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the same model to me, only it is all smooshed up in the top picture and doesn't have all the fancy graphical tweaks that are able to make the model look so awesome in the vid.
@ OP
Didn't you know that ♪ In every single person, there's a [[Leviathan]] lurkin'? ♪ :P
...Okay, that was quite possibly the worst Eminem reference ever conceived...Shame on me.
