Same thing buying slurpies in Japan. They get no direct money, but someone buying that item on Amazon will get the code sent to them, even if they've never heard of FFXIV. And now, they have.I just don't understand this promotion or the one last year. What exactly does SE gain from people buying products that aren't made by SE? Seriously, how does me buying a 20 dollar XBL card benefit SE, or I should say 14? 14 isn't even on the Xbox so SE doesn't make a penny from this. I can't recall ever meeting anyone who bought 14 strictly because they got promo items from a sale either, now that I think about it.

The fat chocobo mount (white) was the same, Amazon would litterally not deliver to Canada, it specified (timecards) and i could not really find anything else that qualified for the Promo at the time.
Perhaps it is not the case this time but it can be acknowledged that NA promos Canada is usually excluded. If this time it is not thenfor us

It's essentially advertisement. Amazon benefits from FFXIV players and SE benefits from Amazon customers. Whether or not it's the most effective way to do it, I couldn't tell you.I just don't understand this promotion or the one last year. Well since they went with another amazon deal in NA then all those people that got their codes last year by pre ordering items and canceling it afterwards are not the reason why we did not get it in Europe. Well I still hope that they make a better deal for EU this time..
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Actually this is what happened.
I had a valid credit card on file > Purchased an item of 19.99 and above and received the promotional codes instantly.
This morning i get greeted that the transaction has not passed and need payment revision. But still received the codes last night.

It is definitely a valid business model, but at the same time it grinds gears of many many players who cannot part-take. So will it be that worth it in the end, that's what I can't tell (but can guess).

The promo items will apparently come to Mog Station in the future, so no need to panic if anyone misses it during the promo! ^^
I get it's advertising the game, but really if the advertisement isn't generating more money into SE vs money going into other companies that could be potential competition. Who is really being promoted here?
But that's a direct promotion, only two companies are benefiting from that. SE doing a slurpie promotion with 7-Eleven, isn't allowing a competitive developer such as Ubisoft or EA to gain profit of off SE.
