There's no hating on the addition of quests. I welcome them. I stated that they serve no purpose lore-wise, for the majority of them. This is the very thing XI/XIV players harp about with WoW which doesn't even hold true anymore for most quests. I didn't say they aren't fun, I said they aren't fleshing out lore, which is a fact.
This game has very little actual in-game lore. Missions and GC quests are it. That's not hating, it's pointing out that while they have added quests, the lore still does not feel fleshed out. It feels a lot like how Rift is. You're playing a game and there's lore online about it, but looking for it in the game only gives a small piece of the overall picture.
Funny how it's not a lame argument when it's XI/XIV players bashing WoW and Rift for the same thing. I wasn't even bashing it, simply pointing out the lack of lore.Lame argument.
Never said they have to have relation to lore. Again, I simply pointed out that XIV's side-quests are mostly just fluff. Entertaining to some, yes. I've had fun with some of them. You should stop making assumptions.Side-quests don't have to have any relation to the lore. That's why they're "side quests" and not "main storyline missions" or quests. They can be simply isolated mini-stories of a given NPC dealing with some situation that they want your help with. It's the same in any MMORPG and, indeed, any RPG period.
Again, stop making assumptions. That statement was nothing more than a weak attempt by you to dismiss an element that you know damn well has seriously improved in the game, especially in the last few updates. It's especially notable for people whom, like myself, abhorred having to rely primarily on levequests or the occasional storyline or class quest to have anything to do.
Cool, awesome, swell. Makes no impact on my point.I'm literally at the point now where I'm only doing leves if I feel like it, and most of the time it's grouped with linkshell members. My quest journal is almost always full, and I've always got other goals I'm working besides that.
Yes, launching with absolutely no quests besides leves and missions makes even a handful of added quests feel substantial. It is still a shell of a game, though much less so than it was before. That doesn't mean people cannot have fun with it. XBlades for the PS3 is a horrible game. However I still find it fun to play around with sometimes when I want a game I can mindlessly button mash. Just because some people enjoy the game does not mean it's a good or complete game.FFXIV has filled out substantially and feels much more like an actual MMORPG now, than the mere shell it was months ago.
I enjoyed just about everything on that list. You have a problem with assumptions. As for the rest of the list... speak for yourself. Some of those specifics were major things for a lot of people and/or otherwise content that people are enjoying. Anyone who's been following the forums here, and elsewhere will know this. That you don't think they're notable additions/changes doesn't mean they aren't for anyone else.
Anecdotal evidence. Yes, it does feel and play like a different game. It still doesn't have much relevant content. Fluff quests are not relevant content. I'm talking about endgame events and even stuff like BCNMs. Three dungeons and an Ifrit battle is not a lot of content, and most games launch with more content than that. When they start fleshing out quests to actually explain lore as a lot of XI quests did, then that will be a step in the right direction. And with your last paragraph... again, speak for yourself. The general consensus I'm seeing from a lot of people joining my LS who've come back to the game after being away since even only a few months back are mentioning how different the game feels, how much more there is to do, etc. Some of those checking it out after leaving soon after launch are mentioning that it feels and plays like a completely different game already.
Speaking for myself, I was having a good time back in May, then was unable to play a lot until 1.19 again. I killed Ifrit, got my Choco, did new quests, tinkered around with crafting, ran more behests since they removed that asinine hour timer and had fun. I even ran Toto-Rak. There still is not a ton of things to keep me interested.Speaking for myself, I couldn't keep myself interested in the game for more than a few days up 'til 1.18. 1.18 made a big step toward keeping me interested and now since 1.19 I'm finding myself playing, or wanting to play on a daily basis as much as possible. I actually have to pull myself away from the game to get other things done that I need to do.
I have been trying to get my other friends from XI who play WoW with me interested in 2.0, and so far two of them are going to be watching it. We want this game to succeed because we are tired of WoW, so don't pretend I'm some XIV hater just because I'm stating the obvious. A lot of people may have come back to try 1.20 before the subs kick in. A lot of people also would have done that, but then decided to just wait til 2.0 since they don't feel like making a gamble on the game and paying for it before it is at their level of expectations.
I don't care if people sub to it. I won't, because there are still better options out there for me at this point. I cannot justify personally paying the sub before 2.0 when the whole game is going to change. Instead of sitting through numerous patches leading up to 2.0 and having a lot of smaller changes come over time, I'd rather wait for 2.0 and be overwhelmed with the changes so it feels drastically different than right now. I know that if I continue to play before 2.0, the game won't feel drastically different because it's going to be a ton of changes over time instead of all of them hitting at once. I personally prefer being hit with all the changes at once so I don't say, "Well only 5 things were changed from last patch." I want to be able to say, "90% of the game has been reworked since last year when I played."
If other people don't care and want to play pre-2.0, I don't care. That is their prerogative, it is neither right nor wrong.
Hope I explained myself well enough to not be taken out of context again, or have words rammed into my mouth from someone who wants to argue over a point that only exists in their head.
Do you have numbers to back up that statement? No, you don't. Thank you. There's a reason why there are more people playing now than there were back after launch or even some months ago. It's not because people don't think anything you listed there matters.
Again, stop assuming and using anecdotal evidence. So again... speak for yourself.
