    Did I waste my time?

I crafted at HQ or bought every single possible DoH piece (I skipped over some that the vintage cycle overlapped) level 1-49. Then I inserted materia (only able to for WVR and LTW) to cap control on each piece.

My idea was to make it easier to HQ everything possible while leveling other crafting classes. My WVR is at 53 and my LTW is at 50. Everything else is either at 15 or 0.

Was this a waste of gil/time/life? Did I let my OCD win? Is this actually going to help me level all crafts to 50? Please tell me I didn't flush 300k gil down the drain.

Since "worth" here doesn't seem to be a question of monetary gain, but of convenience, it's really up for you to decide. Once you get more cross class abilities, you probably won't need a bunch of HQ gear to HQ stuff, but if you're just starting, it may be helpful and you'll be able to use it for all your stuff as you level. 300k is barely anything anyway. For instance, I spent 3 million today on a whim and I'm only a million down from where I started this morning with a couple million more in items on the MB than I had this morning. I don't even have that much gil (<20 mil). Easy come, easy go.

I hear that a lot. No idea how people are able to hold onto that much gil. Maybe I just don't play enough. I currently have about 30,000gil. You can't just assume everyone is rolling in gil you know lol.

If you've learned how to use your skills well, HQ should never be that much of a problem. Maybe you made it a little bit easier, but then also you can probably level everything else so quickly that you might not feel the effort was worthwhile.

Personally, I felt that investing in materia at all at low/mid-level was a bit of a waste, just given how quickly you swap out gear.

It's not about "rolling in gil." What I have is chump change, honestly. There are people with literally billions of gil out there. If you just look for opportunities to make gil while going about your day and never vendor anything you could sell for more on the market board, you'll probably start to see a lot more income. For instance, I did Ixali dailies to level my crafting classes. When you get to the higher ranks, you get oak nuts and materia. The oak nuts can be used to purchase crafting and gathering materia I-III, as well as some specialty crafting mats, like Xelphatol water. Blue IVs still have value because they're used even for BiS crafting gear. They go for 20k a piece on Balmung if you do it right, and Balmung is ridiculously cheap on most items relative to other servers. That's an easy way to get some extra money. Make sure you do WT and get Mhachi demimatters when you can. Blue Vs are worth quite a bit. I get potsherds I can trade in for battle Vs by leveling alts in PotD. Look for material flips you can do while leveling your crafters, such as when I was able to convert 600 gil worth of cobalt ore and shards into cobalt plates worth 2,000 gil. I spammed plates for five levels on both BSM and ARM and made idk, probably a few hundred thousand off of it (don't remember how many I made). You'll have to check your server's prices of course, but there are numerous ways to make decent gil just by playing the game.

I have GSM at 60, LTW slightly over 50, WVR at 50 and the rest somewhere in the range between 20 and 35. I don't main crafting, rather I do it in periods, when I simply feel like it. My GSM is with no doubt my main source of gil income. I usually have around 300k, give or take. With effort I crank it up to 1 mill. And I have never had more than 2 mill at a time. Now, I do spend some on mats and glamours, and occationaly on DPS gear since I don't farm content for gear. And you also need to take server economy into consideration, as item cost and worth varies between them.

Honestly, you are better off using leves to level crafters from 1-50. If you're willing to craft the kits yourself, it can save you a bundle. Buying anything from the market board is a bit wasteful, however you can stretch out that HQ gear much longer. So you may break even in the long term. For instance, I stuck with the Artisan's Gown set until 55 I think. Avoid melding though on leveling gear though. You really won't have crafts taking advantage of those extra stat boosts until reaching max level. The one exception will be when Stormblood launches. If your goal is to hit 70s across all crafters/gathers immediately, plucking in materia can help ease the grind.

@Nixxe I have never heard of WT, mhachi demimatters, or pot sherds lol. I haven't tried doing ixali dailies yet either. I guess I can look them up now thanks.

@bourne endeavour yup I gather and craft for leves myself so far. Sometimes for leves you can buy the NQ item from the vendor right next to the leve giver and I just do that though lolll

I put materia in stuff just because I converted a lot of gear while leveling...but buying equipment during leveling I don't think usually is worth it.

WT is Wondrous Tails for what it's worth, because I think it will be rough if you try to look up just WT.

Ixali dailies are pretty great for leveling crafters from 1-50 and I'd recommend you unlock them ASAP. They'll give you something like a level per day depending on your crafter level and how many you do. You want the quest A Bad Bladder in New Gridania. I think the NPC is in the Adder's Nest. If you haven't done so, I'd also strongly encourage you to unlock the moogle dailies in Churning Mists as well. They can be used to level crafters from 50-60, and will also give you carved kupo nuts, which can be exchanged for glass fibers. Those are somewhat valuable on their own and can be used to make luminous fibers and tempered glass, which are even more valuable. It's also worth noting that you can do all of the crafting for both Ixali and moogles with a high level crafter if you wish and then just swap to the class you want to level when you turn it in. The quests are not class locked like some of the other beast tribe dailies.
