I agree except I think a support class could be accepted if it provided enough support. AST is popular for raids because of the support, even though scholar and whm both have higher pure dps.I don't think we'll ever get a real support class in this game, the closer we got is AST but with the RNG we can't really call it support.
Pretty much like debuff class, I don't think SE is interested by that kind of gameplay (plus, ppl are to focused on DPS DPS DPS so a real support class would probably never been accepted in parties)
AST's pure DPS is actually higher than SCH's. They also have much better MP sustainance than WHM, which puts AST ahead in the personal DPS department simply because AST can sustain DPS for much longer than WHM, both in single target and AoE.
AST is popular now, yes, but that's because it can heal as good as WHM, shield better than a SCH, and bring better support than the support DPS jobs. In other words, AST is a terrible example for this thread because the class is extremely overpowered in all fronts lmao.
Back when it was released, despite the support it brought AST was met with high rates of rejection because the support it provided wasn't deemed as strong enough compared to its weaker healing capacities, bad enmity and MP management, and more or less clunky card system. I honestly always thought AST was fine up until 3.2, but it really speaks against the point you're trying to make that they had to make an overpowered healing, buffing and DPSing machine in order for it to become popular.
A pure support job will never take off in this game. Also, isn't it pointless to discuss anything related to RDM until we actually see how it works??
