This hasn't stopped a lot of people from specifying though. You like what you like. If you want to only get to know and EB with someone of a specific gender than that's your right and choice.

I dig it. I don't care what a person's RL gender is that much. I can just EB with someone I would consider to be a Best Friend Forever (BFF) if the person is male. I don't want to sound like a hater or anything. I also would like a BFF who plays Ultima Online or LOTRO. I in fact frequent a chatroom for Gender Dysphoric folks... Sorry I'm getting defensive. But as for Romance? I am not sure I personally can be flexible in that regard.
