Well one thing it did get rid of was all of the gold seller spam. Players auto-ban that crap within minutes.The funny thing is the original description of the downvote and how to use it was all about downvoting nonconstructive posts. It was meant to promote quality posting, but I think Blizzard realized that wasn't going to happen and perhaps found some other value for it, which resulted in it being renamed the dislike button.


Given that most gold seller spam on the forums consisted of weak phishing attempts, it's likely that came to an end mostly because of the proliferation of authenticators.
