I couldn't land on it, so when I got to a color I already had gotten that needed 2 of the same fruits and didn't work, I just used 1 and it worked. Now I'm on an alt trying to get to black and again I'm bouncing around all over again. This time it's taking me way too long. I am feeding them all at once in order specified by the site. That RNG is killing me. We just need a simple, easy to use method for coloring our Chocobos. This is too tedious and time consuming.
If there's RNG in your chocobo coloring, you're doing something wrong. Each fruit changes the color values by a set amount, so getting from A to B is a pretty straightforward calculation for a computer to do. Perhaps you're not giving it the right starting point to work with.

I'm pretty much following the instructions that website says. I even verify it says new feathers are growing before I move forward with the rest of the fruit list. I usually get the growing new feathers prompt on the 1st fruit, but if I don't, I feed it another on until I do and then continue as normal. I'm not doing anything different. It just won't give me black.

Following the instructions for a variation of brown, I got purple. Someone else I know got the wrong shade of blue and someone else went for void blue (I think?) and got soot black. All using the calculator and following the feed instructions.

Sometimes all those little RNG values add up and throw you off just enough that the guide won't account for it and you'll never land on the color you want. In that instance, its usually best to use a Han Lemon and just start back from scratch (0 RGB). If you do that, eventually you'll get the one you want.

Personally I prefer to micro feed. You have more control. (Only let it change one colour at a time)

Also a few of the colours seem harder to get and were once considered HQ* when trying to proc them.

I think its a fun mini game that doesn't need changing really... but I do think its entirely silly to be able to dye our Chocobos and NOT be able to dye our Gold Saucer/Breeding Chocobos

I don't think it needs to be changed. Some vague something-or-other that the players don't fully understand is what can make a game special sometimes.

I agree, there needs to be an NPC we can pay some sizeable amount of gil to have our chocobos changed to a color of our choice. It would need to be limited to a selection of colors though, similarly to how NPCs don't sell every glamour dye color. Maybe have some method of unlocking more through quests or something.

    Its RNG involved.
All I can say is keep trying.
And don't dump all fruits at once, try to feed around 20 - 30 then wait for result and go from there.

I don't think this needs changing. I've dyed my choco a few times and I had a lot of fun finding out how the system worked. I admit RNG can be unkind, I've been there and would definitely suggest a Han Lemon if you get stuck in a loop or keep getting the wrong colour. Yes it's a bit frustrating, but oh the feeling of satisfaction when you finally get it right.

Having put in a lot of time, effort and gil dyeing my choco, I know I'd feel a little resentful if people could just walk up to an NPC and get the exact colour they want with no effort. It would have to cost a serious amount of gil to make me comfortable with this idea.

We need metallic dyes for our chocobos!
