I don't see her dying. I can see a scenario though where she overstretches herself and Matoya sacrifices her own life energy to save her former student. The quests around Matoya imply that to her Y'shtola is the most precious thing she has left in her life.

If Y'shtola dies, I don't think it will be from her Aether vision. I more got the impression that the life-shortening it causes is a long term thing, that if she keeps using it continuously, she may wind up dying prematurely in her late 40's or 50's, not that she's in danger of dying in weeks or months. Of course, that kind of life-shortening is still highly alarming; no one wants to think that they will die so young, and since Matoya has a fairly maternal attitude toward Y'shtola, it's quite natural that she'd be concerned for her.

However, I don't think that this game will cover a timespan of the decades needed to reach Y'shtola's premature death. If she does die within the storyline, it will be for another reason. Rather, it is intended to be a sign of Y'shtola's heroism, that she's willing to knowingly shave years off of her life in order to continue being a useful member of the Scions.

(Though, honestly, she might be better off training herself to get used to the blindness, and only turn on the sight when it's really needed. That's easy for me to say, though, as I'm NOT blind - and if I were, and had a means to restore my sight at the cost of years of my life, I can't say I wouldn't be mighty tempted, even without a cause to fight for...)

That's a strong thought. I believe there is possible lore where Y'shtola could regain her sight, but at the sacrifice of Matoya.

The question is, would she really want that?

she hasn't shown any dismay at her current sight at all, in fact she seemed quite curious about what she can do with the ability. She knows her limits...I hope.

frankly, we should be more worried about thancred's problem. unlike Shtola he does not even have the ability too use it, let alone see it.

Don't worry, there's plenty of Y'shtolas to go around.

Basically this is my interpretation of it also. Also, if you do some of the side quests you learn that Matoya considers Y'shtola very dear to her and Matoya holds a genuine deep motherly affection for Y'shtola. If she were actually rapidly dying, there's no way Matoya wouldn't actively be doing something about it. Although if Matoya was there if we "buried" Y'shtola (assuming she dies in the main story at all in SB) that would be one hell of a heartbreaking moment! The Matoya side quests in her cave give you a lot more context about their relationship and ends on a fairly bittersweet note that's worth checking out if you haven't already done it.

I'm not home to look right now but I believe the lorebook alludes to her being ageless. My reading of it I mean.
