Doing roulette and weeklies, a few stories in the past week.

    Extreme Roulette
Down into the deep depths of steam and lava we go.
Myself as a PLD, BLM, WHM, BRD.

The run went really smooth. No loss in hate, full to the wall pulls and melting enemies as is expected from this point in the game. The run was 16 minutes long, one of my fastest ever.

During the run we had the pleasure of talking about the last story patch and the predictions we had coming into Stormblood. Everyone but the WHM was happy about the surprise reveil about a certain someone of whom left a bad taste in her mouth. It then became a debate if we actually ever knew the original person in question or if it was all truely a facade.

All in all it was an enjoyable run and we stuck around talking at the end of it until the forced exit of duty end timeout. 3comms

    Level 60 Roulette
Enter Xelphatol. The composition I don't remember but the two dps were a team and the healer was a return player.

The pulls were as big as they could be, however, as sometimes is the case with large pulls hate is pulled off a mob or two while on the way to the end of the pull. (Usually due to a dps attacking a mob before the pulls done and threat hasn't been established yet). Rest assured though that I maintained threat at the end of the pulls .

Well, one of the dps made a side comment on the fact I lost threat in midst of a pull but it was just them receiving stress of a bad day. I won't say I wasn't a little upset by the jab but it was okay. I get that sometimes you need a release from a bad day and small things even as temporary as it was, can set anyone off.

Somehow the returned player thought it was them that the comments were targeted towards but we all worked things out in the end.

A small amount a drama in this one but the run was about average. 19mim clear. 2comms.

    Level 50 Roulette
Enter Tam-Tara Hard. Don't remember composition but there was a new commer bonus as well as the healer cosplaying as a leprechaun. (Green outfit, big hat, and they talked as though they were Irish. While it was cute. It got a wee bit annoying in the end)

The run was uneventful for the most part until it clicked with the new person who the final boss was and they, for lack of a better word, went crazy. It was really fun to see someone get excited on the lore of it.

During the boss the healers controller dies and we wipe. It's okay, I don't mind. One dps bails and we decide to just 3 man it after waiting awhile. Beauty get through it. The newcommer was sad at the ending 38min clear, 0comms.

    Leveling Roulette
Enter Satasha. On BRD and have a PLD tanking. They say they apologize for a slow run but eh, whatever.

At the end of the run I ask if they'd like rotation advice as they were losing threat in the dungeon and they obliged. Proceed to spend 5 minutes explaining rotations for l50 and l60 and noting useful cross class skills. Also note to them how best to go about maintaining threat at l30-40 dungeons

    29 min clear, 1 comm

    Trials Roulette
Enter Final Steps of Faith. 5 new people. Run goes as you'd think. I'm a PLD Co tank is DRK. After 3 wipes and explaining mechs, we are yet again in phase 3. Somehow people fail to stack yet again, and suddenly it's the WAR myself and an Astro.

Duder is at 13%. I'm take Mt so DRK can dps and Astro throws an arrow on em. (I think? Not sure about Astro buffs) on the next aoe I use tank lb3. At this point duder is at 5% and Astro dies.

The next aoe goes off at 1%. I use my immunity buff and DRK uses living dead (?). Our buffs wear off and chats going crazy. We're both down to about 5% health and I pull off another spirits within before dying. As I die big daddy megee falls as well. Most exciting clutch moment I've ever had. Big props to DRK.

    3comms. 47min clear.

All in all I had fun this week and look forward to next week.

There's others but I've run out of time today. Maybe another day .

Selli was running WoD while I was doing other things, about halfway through I decided to be a pain and watch how the run was going over her shoulder.

She queued as a MNK, as she has been trying to get the chest piece for a while for her level 50 SAM glamor. There was another MNK in the party and he asked if he could have the pants if they dropped, she said, "Sure. I'm after the MNK chest myself so I won't roll on anything else." And the other MNK is like, "Cool, awesome. Thanks."

The run goes really smoothly, no wipes, everything dies quick, no fighting, ect. The MNK pants don't drop, however after defeating the Cloud the MNK chest drops. Selli gives a quick little, "Whoo!" in the chat and rolls... but she doesn't get them. The other MNK rolled on them as well, won, and left immediately. Those who stayed behind for the other loot were just as confused and surprised as us, they were also sympathetic which was sweet of them.

I guess it just goes to show that you can never be certain of what others might do. (edit) Though, Selli is very firmly convinced that the other MNK rolled by accident and then left quickly because he was scared of being yelled at. I, however, don't share that optimistic view.

Trusting randoms is the first thing I learnt cannot be done in a MMO. And I learnt it the hard way too, so your friend isn't alone.

had some interesting tanks lately...the most notable one here:

First off: I play all 3 healer classes but Ive neglected my scholar a little, now while I might not be the best off-heal SCH in savage (I do savage as AST/WHM), I sure think I handle my SCH well enough in dungeons
    while providing decent dps.

So, me(SCH) and my friend (BLM) queue lvl 50 roulette and end up in Stone Vigil Hard with a WAR Tank and a NIN dps.
WAR had lvling gear on, was around lvl 52.
War starts rushing through the dungeon doing all the biggest possible pulls you can do in this dungeon, which are tougher than many other dungeons.
I am thrilled because I LOVE big pulls..........I applied a shield to tank, eye for an eye, sacred soil, rouse my fairy+ fairy heals...you know the drill
....then start applying dots...I could finish 1 Bio II cast! Midway of casting Miasma, the tank is dead. He died THAT fast.

I mean, maybe its just me,but if you gonna do huge pulls then I expect you to use heavy CDs and make use of your excellent HP absorption as a WAR.
Defensive Cooldowns? Nope. Berserk? Nope. Bloodbath? Nope. Idk what this war did but it wasnt much. So I tell him he has to use cooldowns etc.
We do the pull again, and this time i go full heal cos he still drops like a fly.

Somewhere after the 2nd boss there is another huge pull leading through many corners....War pulls everything again, kinda hard to keep up with him, couldnt even shield him.
When he had pulled everything, i just manage to heal him 1-2 times before he dies again. Honestly, these big pulls HURT A LOT, Ive done them as a tank myself while
burning through all my defensive CDs during it.

Now the Ninja DPS speaks up "oh,but he used a cd this time " (no idea,he died too fast to notice, but it wasnt much for sure)

We wipe, respawn, I use the opportunity to type a reply, then use the shortcut to get back to everyone else to try again just to see the WAR
already rushed to the front, having everything pulled again and he dies before I can even reach him. GG pulling without protect and a healer nearby.

I never really played WAR other than lvling it, and I sure wouldnt be the best one but I still remember the basics like: Maim/Bloodbath/Berserk/Overpower Spam to sustain HP
which he didnt do at all during this dungeon, and which I explain to him that he has to make use of those if he wants to go crazy with big pulls.

Ninja then says that she mains SCH and that she doesnt understand how I cant keep him alive. I reply "Cos I also dps, I cant even finish casting half of my dots before he dies" , she replies "I dps too".

She then proceeds to say how "Warriors are really bad at big pulls " anyway, so I should focus more on my primary role. She lost all of her credibility at that point.
Wars are AMAZING at mass pulls and I told her so, which she refused to acknowledge. Question remains why they'd go for large pulls in the first place if theyre so convinced that war is so bad at it....

She said some other stuff that I dont recall in detail but it was basically questioning my healer skills while heavily convinced WARs are bad at big pulls and doing by far
the lowest amount of dps on her NIN. Like, if you have decent advise, I dont mind, but she obviously had no idea what she was talking about and wouldnt accept any other opinions.

    ...So I kicked her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

turns out she was the tank's wife, who then left also after complaining how mean I was....?
Me and my friend gave advice on how to play war more efficiently and were met with complete ignorance+ me being blamed for not doing my job.....

I think it is because she gets blamed all and every time she doesn't pull that large.

This reminds me of a run of the Diadem I did when it got reworked. A bunch of people in the chat started talking crap about the players saying "How do you not know how to do this yet?" Bruh. The rework has been out for a day. Calm down.

"she" was the ninja dps and did not have any tanks lvled from what I recall. Her husband was the war tank.
Also, pulling big without using CDs is gonna get you blamed just as much.

Baelsar's Wall my first expert in like what... 3 weeks? I'm tanking it, I see we got a geared monk and a blm, I wait for Protect from the whm, go off on our merry way and pull the whole thing as I figured the group can handle it. The adds like to multi DoT and the Magitek mob was tethered to the healer, i'm popping my CDs and rotating them, but i'm still dropping like a fly (no Regen, No Asylum, no Divine Seal, and no Tetra) I'm at 4000 hp, pop LD, whm doesn't use Benediction as he died before me since he wasn't healing anyone or Esunaing. Sigh.

I ask him "do you want small pulls?" no answer. DPS say let's try again since they're the only ones talking besides me, same thing happens (but we have less mobs this time mainly the magtitek), no Esuna, no Regen, healer dies before me AGAIN que our 2nd wipe. The group kinda talks among themselves, people getting mad, but we finalllly pull and kill it since there were only 6 mobs left. That took us about 13 minutes but whatever that's not the point.

This healer for the rest of the run barely did anything but Eye for an Eye, the monk and blm almost died on the first boss at least 3 times, 2nd boss was smoother and final was okay. But please if you que into an expert at least use all your abilities, the healer used Regen on everyone for AoE and made me go "oh god are we gonna die" because AoE fluff dmg almost killed the DPS multiple times.

Sadly, this is what happens when a DPS-main doesn't want to wait for their daily expert queue and thinks they can get away with queueing as a healer and not do anything... It drives me up the wall. Sorry to hear your healer was so bad. /comfort

I took an extended break from FFXIV around Christmas due to burnout and just life stuffs, but I recently returned for 3.55, and I just want to give a shout out to some of the nice people that I've met since coming back to the game. A little positivity to brighten up the Tales of the Duty Finder thread.

First off, shout out to those awesome groups I had while running the new Diadem. And extra shout outs to those awesome people that stayed with me the entire time and hunted for buried coffers, or did boss FATEs with me! You guys are awesome, and I hope to run into you guys again!

Secondly, shout out to those that I met while farming for my birbs (and to those that helped me get clears on the fights I hadn't cleared yet!). I met some super awesome people while farming Sephirot, Sophia, and Thordan, and the cross-server friends list can't come soon enough. I hope all of you managed to get the birbs you wanted with as little trouble from RNGesus as possible!

Thirdly, shout out to those I've met that have helped me in roulettes with explaining dungeons/trials to newbies/returning players, and were generally patient, even if the runs took longer than normal. This game needs more patient and understanding people like yourselves.
