    I thought it was that you only get xp for a mob that you were participating in fighting when you died... Anything after that yielded nothing. Still odd.. but I think that's how it was.

    Well that could very well be true because I can't recall dying to anything which resulted in SP that I wasn't fighting before it bit my face off. I really can't imagine any scenario in which this wouldn't be the case actually now that I think about it.
