I'm sorry, but I don't know you at all and can only go on what you say in the post. If you make it sound as though the current situation is justified by a false interpretation of the figures (S-E working off profit by pandering to cute females, yet the same S-E reporting their playerbase is predominantly using male characters and have historical form for pandering to the female gaze) then I feel obliged to argue against that stance to demonstrate how wrongminded it is. If you're stating opinion as stone cold fact with openings like 'Ok, the hardcore truth', then that's all I have to work with; I adjust my tone to be similarly firm.

I have no beef with you personally whatsoever and the parts I didn't quote I'm not even arguing with; however, those on my side of the fence have literally heard every single counterargument under the sun over the two year odyssey of this quest for equal access to glamour. My dearest wish is that we can eventually move past the need to bring up defenses which don't stack up against Square-Enix's own actions, and focus on a more positive kind of campaign.

Why you ignore the rest of the quote?, anyway I'm talking about assuming why I like or dislike. And yes, to me is a cold fact becuase similar scenarios happen in a lot of other MMO's (not only TERA) and even in mods communities. As I said companies ponder to money, thats why MMO's become more casual, despite forums "full" of hardcores everywhere.

There is no an obscure motive about why this happen.

I agree that other games frequently pander towards the stereotypical idea of a straight, young, wealthy male gamer and that very much comes out in their sexy character designs. Final Fantasy is quite unusual as it has a large proportion of fans outside this narrow demographic and a long history celebrating both the male and female gaze. There's a reason I'm not playing TERA or those other MMOs. Though if they are pandering, there is more reason for them to pander specifically to Miqo'te, Hyur and Au Ra than there is to pander to a minority of their paying playerbase (female characters); it's faster to adapt Miqo'te designs to those similar body shapes than it is to adapt them to female Lalafell or male Roegadyn. I think it would be a shame if they went that way.

Like I said earlier, compared to some other MMOs, especially TERA, we have it quite good in XIV when it comes to glamour being equal. It may not be perfect but it's good.

An other MMO that I used to play, but went down a long time ago, Dragonica, had it better. Most sets were shared with all genders and races. Then there were female only sets and male only sets. But these were "shared". Example: For every female highschool outfit, there was a male one as well. Then they had female exclusive sets, example: The Mai Shirunai set (from King of Fighter series), which obviously was no male variant of. But the males had their own exclusive sets as well, for example: rockstar outfits.
Everything counted and summed up, it was pretty equal.

I guess that they're trying to make it somewhat equal, if Aymeric's set is indeed meant as a push in that direction, albeit a bit of a pity that they didn't go with in-game but Mog Station to solve it, they're (hopefully) trying. I know that still won't us make able to wear the female sets, but we should take every "victory" we can get. :3

@kinazu I don't really see it as a "victory" as you said because once again this is an item given to the female avatar. When SE starts to show that they are trying to create and make male versions of such female exclusive, we can say they are going to the right approach. So far I just see SE making an unisex hairstyle to gain more profit. They know the players playing female characters will always want to get anything that is an icon in game related to the main story, holiday or Occidental traits (we have seen how many NA players have been showing off the Korean and Chinese outfits as soon as they came out)

... How about a 'gender-less' character option? As an example, I envision a Miqo'te character creator screen where one can go to both 'extremes', to the female and the male side we already have and everywhere in between. I can see a slider, at the left side it has 'Male', at the right side 'Female'.
The character created this way can wear both, male and female clothing.
This would actually be very cool, and, I don't think it has been done before...

Genderless would be cool, but I think it would take quite a lot more development time to implement than just letting anyone wear locked clothes to achieve their desired look. If they do a future race ever again, it would be a neat way to reduce the amount of work required while giving people an imaginative alternative to the current options (and mess up their existing strict gender locking system, muahaha).

It depends on how you look at it. If you read closely, I never said it was a true victory, that's why I wrote "victory". And also the whole tune of my post was meant to be doubting. I'd like to see it as a positive sign, but I, like you do not. I'm sceptical at most. I don't think SE will fix this any time soon nor address it. If they, for example, add the male bunny suit with the Edda outfit for female we didn't win anything either, correct? It'll still be the same, with the males getting something the females already have and the females getting something unique once more.

They Aymeric outfit may be a step in the right direction but it is indeed a cashgrab and an obvious one as well. It'd been better if the hair was exclusive to male as well, if it would be better that way, we'll never know sadly.
