Having a class at 50 or 60 has nothing to do with the armoury bonus, which only looks at whether you have a class higher than your current one, not at whether that higher class has reached any particular threshold. The real reason for focusing on the MSQ first is (as you mentioned later) that you'd need to go back and do it anyway if you didn't start there.

The whole game is structured around its storyline. All the level 50 and above content is gated behind finishing the original ARR MSQ. All Heavensward content is gated behind finishing the additional MSQ added in the 2.x patches. Then a lot of the level 60 content is gated behind the Heavensward MSQ (though I'm not sure if it's everything, like it is with level 50). And when Stormblood comes out, it will be gated behind the Heavensward and 3.x MSQ.

So, focus on the Main Scenario and any sidequests that have the plus sign in the bottom corner of the icon indicating they unlock features or content. Whenever those don't give you enough XP to continue, look to other XP sources, which can be Palace of the Dead, additional dungeon runs, or whatever. (Once a day, leveling roulette is really good for that, and if you're doing that with your main job it should provide all the additional XP you'd need.)

Like the others have said, you're not even at the good portion of the game yet. Just hang in there and keep leveling.

I'm in a static that is doing the savage raids, and I'd say it's anything but slow. Ive wanted rip my hair out numerous times because of it lol (in a good way?). Raiding in XIV is worth the work imho

I say just do the Main Story quests, honestly, because you will get to 60 by doing through alone with the dungeons you will unlock.

Just hang in there, i believe in cha. :3

There's your problem. \o/ Why you farting around in the low levels for so long? @_@ They will eat your soul. I started to get burn out, someone advised me to stop trying to accomplish everything, stop leveling everything. Get your butt through to end game on a Job you enjoy. That doesn't mean rush to end game. Once you're geared up there's not much to do after that lol. But working through story and focusing on optimizing your chosen Job makes it feel more rewarding, because you have a goal to work towards. Flailing around in the low levels will just make you feel lost, I saved it for when I ran out of story to do. :3

FFXIV is the Easy WoW to me, and I actually have come to like it for that. So if you honestly think WoW is too simple, you're not going to be able to stand the gameplay in FFXIV. FFXIV is for those that can immerse themselves in everything but gameplay, sorry to say. I will say that positional attacks on melee make things more interesting, but lately it's just become needless complexity and largely incompatible with several encounters. About 5% or less of the game is difficult to the point of strong controversy, so it's not like there's literally nothing challenging, but it's a relatively small thing.

Anyway, this isn't to say enjoying a game primarily for its gameplay is wrong. Some games, like LoL, are far better as "just games" as I call them. But I'm just saying you should focus on enjoying other aspects in this game.

Sorry to hijack slightly but by combat getting more fun at 50 do you mean having more things to click on the skill bar?

There is that, but encounters themselves become more complex. Positioning, timing of abilities and situational awareness are all factors that increase importance the higher in level you go. At the the beginning of the game combat isn't much more than target this and mash DPS buttons. The higher you go the more likely that behavior will get you (and possibly everyone in your party) killed. The game very slowly eases you into more complex combat, but combat in a lvl 60 raid has little resemblance to Satasha.

Literally every job sucks at a low level, this game largely relies on you to be gripped into the story enough for you not to notice until it's already too late lol.

How does having lots of extra skills to click work with a controller? I am liking this more than other mmo's I have played mainly because of how easy to use a controller is so far, it allows me to play it like a normal final fantasy game so far.

Controller works fine for any job in terms of using skills if you use Hold Crossbar and W Crossbar. It only suffers slightly for SMN/SCH if you want to min/max your pet's movement.

However Controller does suffer a bit in PVP due to the extra actions.
