I wish I had more images on Roe sized men in ladies wear, but it all depends on the effort put into it fitting their form. There are a lot of men at my school who wear heels and skirts and they're capable of making it work because they add additional accessories and know how to make them fit. Yes it is going to look bad when you just take the female version and slap it on a male body without any effort to re-work the design and adjust.

Not a dress, but still an originally female outfit that is possible on a male figure.

For the Fang outfit you can even lose the crop top part and it still works (on a male). That's part of what I don't understand - in terms of design it's generally pretty easy to adapt designs suitable for women to men, at least within the established aesthetic of Eorzea (they're certainly not shy about sculpted leggings or bare chests on men, nor cheeky panty flashes). If they want to go out of their way to make extra touches for both genders (e.g. the decorations on the 2016 santa costumes) that's their choice, but most of the basic alterations can be achieved just by removing parts of the model, e.g. the breast-covering part of the bunny bustiers or the non-jewelled part of the Thavnairian bustier. That was all anyone was originally asking for with the bunny suit campaign and I'm now really interested to know what kind of craziness they've come up with instead.

I've heard it said that male characters are tougher to work with than female ones - ok, that makes sense, Roegadyn males are significantly larger than any of the female models so let's accept that as fact. But they're the ones who put the big male characters in the game, so they need to accommodate them - if they couldn't commit to that then male Roegadyn should have gone the way of the Miqo'te butts with ARR (thank goodness they didn't).

Instead, they invest that development time in modelling male-only items for female characters and adding extra textures to hide excessive cleavage. Think of how much development time would be saved if this double standard hadn't ever taken hold.

In many cases, they actually take an armor design and add cleavage to it or some kind of additional look that reveals more skin of the legs or chest. It's like they put in extra work for fan service which is puzzling. Even to heavy armor they do this when it's highly unnecessary.

I could actually deal without this "extra work" personally as it makes gear look worse for it.

And to be honest, it doesn't look as bad as people make it out to be... I bet my character would still be the badass he is wearing that in Jet Black.

Whoa, I've never seen the Halone top on a female character before. You don't have the head erupting out of your chests?!

I feel for the girls upset about the DRG AF 'belly window' too, that was a particularly weird deviation in an otherwise-incredible design. Both of these problems (female-only/unisex gear and sexy edits to armour) have the same root cause - designers who like the female body so much that it interferes with their work. The design team are enormously talented but they do need to rein it in a little.

Speaking of the "sexy" edits, we can assume that for the most part, it is female devs working on male gear, and male devs working on female gear if the interview about the bunny gear was anything to go by. It doesn't necessarily mean that gear for females will always be "sexy" and "revealing" but it does give the idea that they may take some liberties to do that, and vice versa with the male gear.

100% Absolutely agree. I was actually happy when the DRG AF3 was the exact same and I'd like to see more stuff like that from them. I can get like in some cases redesigning the chest area depending on the outfit, but for the most part it's really not needed and extra work for nothing. They could use that work to make tails clip less on both genders IMO.

I love this version the most. It's what I mean by accommodating the male form. It doesn't stray too far from the other sex either while still looking nice.

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
