Asking for Aymeric's coat to be locked is not petty nor spiteful in any case whatsoever.
1) How many NPC glamours have you seen are both available to both genders from the MogStation? None because it belongs to the NPC and whatever respective gender they are. (I'm not talking about the generic ironworks thing either)
2) Is it not enough that you even got the coat in the first place? You have options. If you want to use the coat so badly then Fantasia over. That's what most people spend irl cash on anyways.
Please stop throwing words like diversity and what not around. Having one item that is supposed to be a premium and represents a key character in the game is not diversity. Diversity applies elsewhere like unlocking racial hempen sets. Draw the line and stop crying, please.
Except nothing was taken away from female characters with this new outfit. They never had it to begin with. How can you take away something they never had? You can't! I'm in support of more gender locked gear for males only. Unlocking female locked gear to be unisex takes it away from females as a female exclusive piece of gear though. So in a sense unlocking more gear would be taking something away from one gender. Adding more gear to the game that is locked to one gender from the start does not.
The thing is, we have had dozens upon dozens of these threads before and the venom directed at those with male characters (nobody has told you to fantasia or stop bringing RL gender issues into the game at all yet, I note*) meets with little resistance from those with female characters - those who do speak up are greatly appreciated. I understand that many of the people requesting Aymeric's set for girls would have sided with male characters if they had read those threads... except they didn't, and the only way to get their attention at all seems to be to make them equally miserable so they understand. It doesn't make me happy for anyone else to have to deal with these arbitrary restrictions, but we'll have more progress ending this situation if more people understand it exists.
Would it have been that hard to think of everyone in the original request instead of just demanding more special treatment for female characters?
Add Minfilia's hair and it's a deal. I'll deal with the inconvenience of lugging the useless extra clothes around but there are so few good updo hair styles for male Elezen ;p
* Edit: It seems I posted this too slowly.
Minfilia outfit has only one piece of gear and one hair. Aymeric has 2 pieces of gear and hair. Remove gloves from Aymeric and you get Minfilia's hair. :P
It's not that I'm ecstatic that it's gender-locked, a better word would be content. I had no personal desire to see female Aymerics, though at the same time, I can see the other side of the coin. I knew there would be complaint threads about it, between here an Reddit, I knew there were going to be "Rejoice" threads. From my own personal perspective, I like that guys get this set. I'm not here to change opinions, but I feel that a certain level of exclusivity between in-game (let's not make this about IRL BS) avatars is nice from time to time. As I said, some items I'd like to be unlocked, the bunny ears being locked has always seemed dumb to me, and certain boots were unlocked a few patches back that made me happy for both genders, but this, I wanna leave with the boys.
I hope they do unlock everything just so I can see the salt of people who get upset seeing men wear dresses.
So can I take this to mean you think that gear should be gender-locked? What criteria do you feel that should be based on? What are your feelings on the Thavnairian Bustier/Bolero situation?
My point is, the only reason I've ever seen given on why gear should be gender-locked for male characters is because some gear is gender-locked for female characters. And if that's your only reason, then yes, it is petty. It's literally "well if I suffer, you should suffer too." What about Thancred or Papalymo's original Scion attire implies it should be gender-locked? For that matter, what about Yda's or Y'shtola's original Scion attire should be gender-locked? All four of them are using basic unisex pieces. So why are they gender-locked? Who does that benefit? As far as I can tell, it's explicitly to address complaints like these.
I'm sorry, I just can't support this. You're in favor of arbitrarily restricting who can use what gear. I just don't see any benefit to that. It's not that I'm ecstatic that it's gender-locked, a better word would be content.
