/facepalm @ the guy in the vid. Just amazing how they could let him comment his opinions on something like that, assuming they didnt pay him to say what he said of course. Thats like me assuming his arms are 50-60% fat and his manboobs lactate when he runs.
If he had maybe mentioned how many people play + with how long they play + projected player base loss due to monthy payments, backed up by some informal in-game player poll of all the servers + regional gamer loyalty to the game/brand to get a more accurate number on which regions gamers are more likely to bail once they start charging, then perhaps he would have a real opinion based on facts.

.....unless it is in line with your own opinions they have to perform a grad school dissertation on the subject in order to prove their point? Sometimes context clues, common sense and historical analysis can go a far way in making ones opinion credible. Not saying his is by a long shot but do people really have to do that much statistical numbercrunching to prove a point that doesnt happen to be your own?

I have a feeling that, even if he came at you with numbers personally provided to him by SE themselves, you'd still complain about the guy's statement as being totally deluded.

I'm a bit worried by the people bashing this guy and his opinion, and what direction they'll attempt to take the game in the absence of anyone with an opposing viewpoint. You all seem ready to defend SE against anything and everything despite all the mistakes they've made, and I have to ask how that's helping SE, or why you think SE even needs defending in the first place.

His opinion, like most is only based on the fact that his "most favorite-est game he wanted evar" is coming out, in order to boost or buff that one, he bashed the the lame kid on the crutches (which i'll freely admit, XIV has been that more often than not in the past year and change). To tell the truth, i (speaking for myself here) don't care WHO stays or goes, i've stuck around for a year plus because yes at first this thing was a HEAPING PILE, and anyone who says different is just lying to themselves and trying to carry the banner too hard. But since i played XI, and honestly just got sick to death of WoW and all it's copycat cousins, i decided to weather the storm, and i am grateful i did, because the last 5-6 months for me have been quite enjoyable. I'm sticking around, and that's all i'll say on it.

As far as defending this game or SE, i don't, because enough people do..when i'm asked at a game store or a friends, and i tell them about this, whatever look or opinion they give me rolls off my shoulder, because, simply said, just because madden 2585 is coming out or CoD 5000 is awesome doesn't mean they are for me, just like this game isn't going to be anyone's or everyone's cup of tea even with what's upcoming and even after the changes they've made so far.

So, this guy thinks ToR is gonna kill off this game then have WoW for a desert dish probably, good for him, i'll pay my 12 bucks and whoever's left on besaid with me can do an exp party or something.

And you base this on what, exactly? He doesn't exactly gush about SWTOR and how awesome it's going to be when he starts talking about FFXIV's downward spiral to failure; he simply states that going P2P now after being F2P for over a year is a bad move and will likely kill the game, especially with SWTOR and other high-profile MMOs right around the corner. He also puts forth the suggestion that sticking with F2P with a cash shop can work, as it has for many other MMOs. He shouldn't have used LoL for comparison though, and should've picked something like Spiral Knights or LOTRO instead.

fixed that for you... unless you have future seeing powers you too lack the adequate knowledge to back up any claims you may have.

It might be a bad move, it might not. My point is the sky has been falling for a year on this game, and not only is it still around, they feel (not alot of folks agree but okay) that they can be comfortable charging finally after a year. Would a cash shop work, maybe, but it's their choice to implement it if they see fit, which they don't. Time, and of course retention of customers will tell on that.

And as far as the other MMO's coming out, i'm sure they will find their customer base just like this one and many others, and do fine, i'm ACTUALLY a star wars fan, but i'm not switching just because i know at launch everyone and their mother will roll a damned jedi and i'd just go nuts, so i'll abstain until they do a free pass or whatnot. Either way i'm sticking with this. And you're absolutely right, he didn't gush over ToR, but he had a certian gleem in his eye...kinda like when you work in an office building and that really hot secratary and the boss come out of the printer room, fixing their shirts and smiling.

LOTRO has a much higher playerbase then this just sayin. You obviously dont know much of what you are talking about cause if you did you would know the freemium model is quickly becoming the most succesful way to run an mmo and most failed launches have come back as those with much success. I like how hard facts and what not are only required from one side of this argument. opinions and fallacies are just fine for the other however.
