Combining the city states excluding ishgard should be a fairly "easy" task. It would require repositioning NPC's and other doodads.

Ishgard was made in two parts. It cant just be fit together. If you look down from the upper plateau, you cant see the pillars. The way the stairs go from one part to the other doesnt make sense. Pieces are missing. Big ones.

Same goes for the zones. You cant just add the arr zones together. They all have various landmarks shown in perspective, as in the model is smaller than is made to be percieved. Therefore just combining them all would require big changes to the landscape. Best example is Pharos Sirius. That lightower is visible from all La Noscean zones, yet if the zones were mashed together, the perspective would be skewed and the island would appear smaller, damaging immersion despite the intention to keep it.

The amount of work to redo all the zones would be the equivalent of an entire expansions worth of zones. "Simply" doing it is not possible. If you were to fly just a bit higher than possible in arr zones you would find holes in the floors and hollow, tiny mountains.

I will agree to recombining the ARR city states. That should be possible without too much stress on the entire department. The assets exist, its just a matter of putting them in place.

This would just be a huge waste of development time.

Maybe you're fine with the developers spending several months on this instead of adding new content but I'm sure 99% people won't be.

Honestly I would just prefer to see them make new zones rather then them spending time rebuilding the old ones unless they were planning to introduce some type of new content into older zones.

I could however see the non city zones being more complicated, but I would like some of them combined for less loading times. I don't see how they'd be empty, because everything that's already there would remain. The fact that we're getting swimming in some 2.0 areas means that flying is likely possible. Maybe not in 4.0, but it could happen in a patch, or maybe in 5.0. Another thing I'd like is more aetherites for a few places that are annoying to travel to. Not all places, but a few.
    But why?

What benefit does it serve to retroactively add features to zones which won't be able to take advantage of them. It would be one thing were we going back to Ul'dah or Gridania in the expansion but if neither area has any purpose outside maybe a small side quest, it's a complete waste of time and resources better allocated elsewhere. Adding flying or seamless zone transition is no simply matter. It'd likely require rebuilding the areas from the ground up. I just don't see the point beyond "it might be cool."

I'm actually for one continuous world. The only reason why we have these loading zones is because of the Playstation 3 limitations that Square was required to release because of Sony's contract. Games like version 1.0 and even World of Warcraft have seamless zones. And those games are coming up to about 10+ years old now.

I know SE's dev team can't afford the resources at the current moment because of Stormblood coming out. But this would be a great quality of life change as well as increase my immersion in the game.

While I'm fine with the broken up instanced zones... the least they could do is get rid of the random invisible walls all throughout the zones that turn them into funneled pathways (and the noninteractable surfaces in the HW zones that don't allow you to land your mount wherever you please).

that is several zones as one -_- 2.0 butchered the maps to make them easier to build/populate/traverse. That is what your asking.

    incorrect.
it wasn't the ps3, but the game as whole. most pc couldn't handle 1.0 and WoW has basic textures that looked like the n64

it was designed from the ground up to zone stuff out, it wasn't sony nor ps3 that made them.

Oh just talking about invisible walls, there are a bunch of walls based on the idea of water too deep to wade and therefore blocked off, even if you could simply jump out of the water at the edge onto land. With the addition of swimming I'd love to see any of those walls removed, I don't even care if they flesh out the depths of the new ponds/rivers you can swim in, or maybe just swim on top and not dive.

There are a few invisible walls in North Shroud that are like ... what? .. really? Lol

Just to clarify, the ability to traverse seamlessly within large areas is something that was aleady possible. We just wanted to have dynamic changes in the scenery, which is why we included some of those loading screens. It’s not completely related to technical specs.
