There's a nice RP icon, just make PvP in the same font and it'll stand out.

If you want the flavour reason, it's a flag because in-game 'PvP' is really just friendly war games between the GCs, instead of actual combat where to you aim to kill. It's kind of like a paintball match ya know? So it's a flag since that's the kind of thing you'd expect to see in a setting like that.
But yeah, it isn't the best icon they could have chosen to convey 'PvP' to other players.

You can't teach now since we don't have chats, unless you creat alts all around the data centerPlease don't derail my thread to something that's been posted in general many times over the last few days.
I like to be a PvP mentor and I actually actively try to help/mentor people. I don't get rewards since I'm not doing mentor roulette (Which is mostly PvE, I don't know if you can get a pvp match through it?) I'm just trying to be more visible to people interested in PvP.
Btw I met a pld who loved to take 10stacks, 7stacks was the least I saw on him
So I created alt and told him please don't do that because of the medal rule
His answer: What's the point if I don't die
Story ends

This thread isn't about the usefulness or accessibility of the mentor status. Please stop derailing it.
This is about the icon not portraying well what it means. The flag doesn't make sense since we don't have a capture the flag mode or anything based around flags in PvP right now.

It's supposed to be a banner, like the kind of thing a flag bearer would march into war with.

I see your point, but how does a flag say "pvp" any less than a crown says "mentor"? For all a new player knows you could be the king of uldah. I agree the choice is bizarre and pair of crossed swords or something would make more sense, but people still wont know what it means until they ask.
It shouldn't be used as a "Listen to me because I have this icon beside my name"-icon. What struck me about the op was that it sounds like he doesn't intend to use it that way at all. Most of the replies here seem to have not picked up on that.

Actually I don't care about how the icon looks like at all
Points like "only ppl who have devourer/unmoving/hunter wolf/etc titles can use the Pvp icon so new pvpers know who to ask" will be more attractive to me

I don't think the icon should be locked behind number of wins or games played. There are many players that have many games played/won but they still seem to not understand the game mode. Should be locked behind top 100 if anything imo...

You can be carried into Top 100 without knowing the game mode either. Plus many good players are not there because they are not doing ranking much.
I don't think people are looking for PvP mentors at all. Nobody needs them lmao. You can set up that icon, wait in Limsa and enjoy zero ontopic tells in month if you don't believe me. And can't advice anything in The Feast because of no chat. So that icon is not needed.
If you want to help then create a generic PvP linkshell which I've seen over the years and answer any questions there, it's much better solution, because several other people can answer too offering more advice.
