Fact: Ishgard hates Dragons.
Fact: Sharlayan/Dravania has a dragon race.
Fact: Dragoon is a Dragonslayer.
NOT Fact: Ishgard is tolerant of people having dragons/wyverns for pets.
Conclusion: Eff off, FFXI.

FACT: The Storyline for the game is being re-written. Something being included to have a pet added could easily be fit in with any scrub doing a fan fiction -- never mind a professional writer.
Conclusion: No matter which way people wanna cut it its totally possible to be added in if enough people asked for it.

They are retaining all pre-existing lore. The Echo will still be in, and altering Ishgard away from their anti-dragon religious mentality is potentially damaging to the game's setting. It sets a bad precedent.
You clearly have not done any practice in world design. Retconning half a world is just stupid, and creates more problems than you need to deal with.
And no, I don't think it would still make any sense, because Dragoons are generally a sanctioned "order" of warriors originating from Ishgard. The GamerEscape interview indicates that there will be a "Legendary Dragoon of Ishgard", which strongly suggests there will NOT be a pet wyvern.
If there are going to be any pet classes, it will probably be on the Disciple of Magic side of things.

Wrong, they're doing rewrites. I didn't sy they're starting from scratch.
The point is indisputable. If enough people wanted it it could easily accompdated regardless of what bizarre way you want to dissect this. Disagree all you want but the absolute fact of the matter is it could be done seeing as they are re-doing things. Tanaka said there would never be summoners because they're Gods. Now whats going on with that... oh yeah, a smn class is being added into the game.
Lol, forrealz? Wow I didn't know I was that transparent. Thankfully we're not talking about programming or anything in that vein and talking about a game and what we would like to see in classes.
Nice trite answer though. Hilarious.
Strongly suggest? So... there hasn't been an exact yes or no to it? So in other words the storyline could be curved to fit something if enough people wanted it? Yeah - you can try and speak in absolutes all you want but again the fact remands absolutely nothing is set in stone. With rewrites on the board its absolutely possible. And no, I don't think it would still make any sense, because Dragoons are generally a sanctioned "order" of warriors originating from Ishgard. IF? Me think you haven't read the latest article where Yoshi flat out states there will be a Summoner class and a Beast Master class (taming) on top of mentioning the rewrites.
Yeah - know what you're talking about next time. Thats always help full.

I don't see why they would re-write the main scenario quests. Now, I would see them ADAPTING the cutscenes to the new engine and environments that will be implemented in 2.0, but re-writing the dialogue and the backstory? Hell no.
From a storytelling standpoint, rewriting already-established lore a full year after the game has been launched is not only insulting to the game's veterans, it damages the atmosphere for the future of the game. Not to mention, it also hurts continuity.
And, Summoner could still be associated with lesser summons (elementals like Earth Golems), while Primals would require a GROUP/Free Company for summoning. Like the scene of the Amalj'aa summoning Ifrit.
Seriously, you're dense. Not worth my time - I do know what I am talking about, and I think you're full of hot air.
And on the point of having world-design experience, have you designed an entire IP for a graphic novel series, or even any form of media? Apart from your own private imagination where you jerk off to your ego, of course.
