Sure, all of this operates under the old server/client limitations but that's a given.

Specifically:

-Hardly any new content will be released before the game is to be relaunched.
-This seems to be the general consensus everywhere except on these forums, for obvious fanboy reasons because people on this forum actually play the game.

So if the only people who play this game come to this forum, then this games player base is extremely small.

Sounds like someone needs to go back to elementary school and learn basic categorization and sets of numbers. Venn diagrams, a square is always a rectangle but a rectangle is not necessarily a square? No?

I feel like the whole "games review" industry (or whatever they call themselves) is really beating the whole "XIV is dead" horse a bit too much. Like really, sure when the game was launched it was less than sketchy and more or less deserved most of its poor ratings. But it's been a year now and the game has made leaps and bounds of improvements and while it won't really be finished being overhauled until 2.0, it seems like these reviewers are just taking jabs at the game while its down for the amusement of the internet. Being fair and accurate is one thing, but kicking something while its down with the same old story just makes you look like an ass after awhile.

The announcement about 2.0 should have been more than enough proof that the game won't "die". Even if everyone stopped playing as the reviewer claims (which couldn't be farther from the truth), the dev team would simply close down the servers and continue their work on 2.0 as they would regardless. With the new version coming down the pike SE has already budgeted out development for the new version just like it would for any other game that doesn't already have people playing it. Subscriptions merely lessen/negate the financial impact of keeping the servers active during development for another year.

The game is totally dying gaiz! The 3-4 shouts a day I see in Ul'dah saying "NEW player looking for a LS" is a sure sign of death. The fact that I've see more people lately then I've seen in some week combined. The fact that 6 of my friends went and ordered FFXIV from SE and are enjoying themselves shows the game is dying...
