I don't have a preference myself. Its my personal opinion that most people just like to complain and want to impose their opinions and beliefs on others, and are taking this game way too seriously. I seem to be a minority though, at least on the forums. One would think that people who dislike dealing with others playstyles would just make premades and be happier.. One of the best things about multiplayer games is meeting strangers and comparing playstyles, dialect, and overcoming differences but maybe im a psychopath who should be surprised when i see people act so different from myself in an online game.

I disagree personally. SCH is one of the most well designed classes in the entire game

The thought of playing SCH again makes me want to play russian roulette with 5/6 chambers filled with bullets and your opponent got the empty already.

If you look on my Lodestone page, you'll see that for the most part, I don't do DPS. It's just too repetitive and it bores me. I got SCH to 50 in ARR and just dropped it. Hated it.

It's oddly different on WHM and AST. I prefer to stick to Cleric's stance and DPS, but I think I enjoy the thrill of deciding if I can do another damage spell or if I need to heal.

Funny you say that, because just moments ago, as my static and I finally downed A11S, aside from a Combust I managed to cast perhaps 3 times in that entire fight, and not even with Cleric Stance on, I spent the entirety of it performing my primary function as the main healer. I'd rather keep my party alive to DPS than possibly overdo it trying to prove a point or shoot for what's effectively "extra" damage. Granted, if you can heal do with with minimal impact to actually being a healer, go for it. Personally speaking, survival went up, and progression went further when I decided to focus on my core role.

When I'm running HW. I don't have enough MP to DPS and Heal. Nor can the global cooldowns be spared for it. Tanks usually pull everything from start to boss, kill boss, then pull everything to next boss and repeat till dungeon is over.

Normally I'll get in a Swift Cast Holy for a stun. But a Stone 3 or set of Aeros? Not worth it unless I can get to Cleric Stance. A tank will die in those 5 seconds (assuming I cleric stance and get a cast and immediately cancel it). Sometimes I can get some stuff off on a boss. But usually the tank stands in stuff so that goes right out.

Pre-HW I can DPS all day and keep most up with stoneskin.

I find the fun in the healing, not the DPS. I'm actually leveling it via SMN because I can't stand SCH.

Anyone who refuses to even be willing to adapt is the real issue. My having to focus on purely healing left my off healer to DPS almost entirely, as she wanted to.

If you can do more but choose not to, that's wrong. If the situation calls to do less somehow, then that's what it takes.
Adaptability is pretty essential, especially when it will improve teamwork.

See, no one is going to fault you for that. Context is always important. Even top tier raiders have garbage numbers their first clears. When you're learning a fight, you shouldn't be in Cleric nor should you drop tank stance frequently. Why? You're learning. In your scenario, the Scholar picked up DPSing in lieu of co-healing. While not an optimal situation, it's perfectly fine at progression. Savage is also entirely different than dungeons or primals. Point is, you didn't stand around doing nothing. You were responsible for all the major healing in content that does massive amounts of damage. It's perfectly fine you didn't DPS.

DPS is only there for damage. Why should they be burdened with having to dodge and lower their own DPS?

Tanks are only there to hold aggro and mitigate damage. Why should they be able to swap stances and do damage?

To the healers that only heal:

Go play SCH with auto Eos and run any dungeon. Tell me how much fun you're having.

If you won't bother to move out of AoE, then I won't feel bothered to waste my MP on a player obviously only out to pad his personal performance at my expense.
Nor will I bother to waste a GCD, a Swiftcast and a much bigger chunk of MP to res you either.

If I have leeway to DPS, I will.
If I get a good draw, I will pop a buff (either directed or on everyone - provided people don't make the incredible effort to stand as far away as possible)
But my PRIMARY function in the group is to keep people alive - anything else you get is bonus.

I really wish attitudes like this were a dispellable debuff - sadly it isn't.

I'm with ThirdChild on this one, dead DPS does no DPS so if I have to go all out on healing and overheal like crazy so they live, so be it. As long as the boss is dead and were not, I don't care about my DPS as a healer.
