As for Diadem weapons it really is a kick to the face, the point is not at all if there is some RNG involved.
If adding 280 weapons was the only way they can get players to go to Diadem, well we know there is issues and should not have been re-opened or just left alone all together as perhaps a source for gatherers instead.
I feel the resources dedicated to re-opening Diadem, they could have you know added another job for Stormblood

I love the fact that we get our own loot bags at the end of the mission. No more need/greed, if only they can implement that into all dungeons from now on. I don't like the fates because its just killing brainless adds, would of preferred just monsters running around, but they did a good job making the monsters disappear fast when the fate ended. Love that the monsters fight each other and I could of sworn I saw some run across the area I was in. Maybe that was just the fate ending and them disappearing. I don't care for the iLVL 280 weapons because level cap is raising and so its pointless to gear any further, just like it was before Heavensward released.

With continued work I think Diadem will turn out great, but its only good for a few runs. Its still the same as before, just needs more objectives in those fates. Puzzle boss fates, like dungeon bosses with mechanics.

I dont think the Diadem weapons should be the top, but its so incredibly rare to get one you can actually use, its likely not going to make much of a splash outside of faux forum outrage.

Frankly, best gear should ALWAYS be a privilege for beating the hardest couple of bosses/encounters in the game, in the raid format. Maybe a piece of accessory of BiS quality could be given to average players, but the relic shouldnt ever be the best weapon anyway.
We're aware the relic is a long, "easy" road to the best weapon. We've been told that from the start. The relic is generally always a few steps behind the current tier raid weapons in progression and level, and many were fine with that, but in one fell swoop, both were eclipsed by something that requires neither the time, effort, or skill to obtain. (As a side note: With 3 month patch cycles inducing forced waits, absurdly high-number/RNG token grinds, and weekly caps, I'd hardly say the relic takes "a little bit of time")

I've said it in another thread: Raid weps are the "Skill-Effort" option. Relics are the "Time-Effort" option. . . What exactly is this i280 weapon?

It's not fair. Life's not fair. We all get this right? But let me use my old mountain analogy to illustrate my point:

I offer you 1 million dollars to climb a mountain. You gear up, you start climbing, and you persevere through all the challenges it poses to reach the top. You're now a millionare.
Not soon after, someone else comes walking to the top and shouts, "YES!! 2 mil baby!" You find out I offered this guy 2 million to simply walk a trail to the top, and with a shortcut at that. I never said anything prior, I just simply did it.
    How does that sound?

If you understand this little analogy, you understand why people are upset by this.

What amazes me here: They could have simply made the relic ilvl280 and patched the raidweapons to be 280 aswell (or added means to upgrade them - get a manifesto from each tiere and some goblin will modify it, something like that) and the whole thing would have been less of an issue.
Someone used the analogy of the jumbo cacpot and farming that million MGP - yet, that doesnt fit, because effort isnt rewarded as getting lucky here. Its more as if the jumbo cacpot would be the only way to get more than a million MGP (and everyone who didnt win just cant hold more than 999.999 MGP, basically not being able to buy Fenrir or the Cloud card).

Getting lucky is being better rewarded right now than putting in the effort to raid or relic-grind and there is no good reason for that - except maybe they were worried people wouldnt bother with diadem again if they didnt throw in those OP rewards (which leads to the question: why not make diadem a fun experience by itself...?)

Its kinda funny here that diadem was supposed to be released together with the last relic-step - which would basically have been "Grats, you got your fully upgraded relic-weapon now! You're a beast now! ...well, except we also figured we could throw better weapons that require no effort at all... have fun!"

Putting an RNG-locked weapon in that would be on the same level as relic and raid would have been less of an issue - but for some reason that wasnt enough...

    You have to actively participate in the Emergency Fate to even have a slight chance of receiving a reward, the correct reward, let alone a good one;

Or you could just pay a raid group gil to carry you through A12 to get you a i275 weapon and that's 100%.

If it was i270 or i275 it would not be worth trying to get. I'd static Diadem every night for a month before I got a WHM weapon that was anywhere remotely as good as the relic that I customized, or could have created without RNG in that same amount of time. i280 is necessary.

Take your BiS everything main to Diadem with a static; and I can't see you every getting an i280 weapon better than your i275 before Stormblood drops.
Of course there's always the slightest, smallest possibility, which is what is going to fuel limited interest in the content.
And those are your jumbo cactpot participants.
