But the fact that the possibilty even exists (when there really is no point for it to) is enough to dissuade anyone into putting more time into the anima relic, and to make people question what the point was in the first place (other than glamour)
I don't get all the uproar this has caused. I did my anima from the very beginning, always when it came out, no nerfed steps. I DO NOT feel like I wasted my time or energy now that there is a >1% possibility I could get a "better" weapon. My sense of accomplishment from completing this quest line (which not only was for the weapon, but also the story, which I liked very much), has not been diminished because now some people who didn't do the relic can POSSIBLY get a better weapon than me.
I'm going to keep running all the extreme primals I've been fighting with my glorious 275 that I worked for and am happy with, and try to clear the ones I haven't yet (with a weapon that is better than what people had when the fights first came out and people were clearing them).
This new weapon really has no effect on me at all, and I feel bad for those people who are so upset about this that they are going to unsub or something. When I get home from work tonight, I'm going to try out Diadem and hopefully enjoy it. Imma get me those super cute minions, maybe some nice acc, and potentially some cool glamour.

Your opinion on how a weapon looks doesn't matter here. Please stay on topic. We are talking about weapon power. I'll reword it this way: these two weapons are actually on pretty even ground. We are always going to see people with the 275 (which is hard for some people to grind out). You may see a random person with the 280 and they managed to get it through sheer luck or massive amounts of grinding; which mean they definitely earned it just as you earned your relic.

Except, I'm still working on my Anima and have no plans to stop because of Diadem. I will be doing diadem beside it and cool if lady luck decides I get a SMN book that blows my anima out of the water. I'm not going to cry over wasted time. Playing the game is wasted time, after all.
Your post holds no water.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

anyone remember when relic was introduced in 3.1 and we saw what the unidentifiable step was like and the reason yoshi said that is was such a grind to do was because it was meant to be comparible to those who had done alexander gordias savage.
Looks at new diadem >_> yea thats comparible to both creator savage and all relic steps

do you then, buddy.Except, I'm still working on my Anima and have no plans to stop because of Diadem. I'm still going to work on mine. A 0.01% chance at getting an i280 weapon with junk stats doesn't change that for me.
That being said, I do not define myself or my character by the gear she has. All gear in this game has a shelf life <6 months.
Bring back the regen WHM boots, then I will care again. Until then, nope.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.
If people feel like they should drop the anima over this then that's their problem and honestly it's a bit sad. I guess I'm not put off by such things so easily. I hate to use this terminology: but that's how a "special snowflake" reacts to not getting things his/her way.

Yeah it's really odd. This is the main point of all the complains. Sad that there are so many people who don't understand that this release pattern isn't 'normal' (as in 'how it's always been), nor balanced with other current contents.
Relic, crafted gear or random drops where never BiS before the current raid tier ended. This 280 weapons don't have anything to do with the gear progression people are used to.
What is the advantage in speeding up the gear process in this way, when there are 3 common ones (deleting weekly lockout, giving weapon upgrade for hunts/dunscath, nerf older relic steps) people are used to and which didn't arrive yet, although those are worse items than the diadem weapon.
I just want to farm my creator BiS for 13 jobs and then take a break... at least then I won't see all those BiS weapons at all. Lockout has to go away. D:
My best guess is that SE was using logic similar to that of the 3 line Wondrous Tails gear rewards: It'll be rare enough to not through off game balance or invalidate the normal stuff.
The Diadem weapons basically take that to the next level by being even rarer and flat out superior to other options instead of being the same strength with guaranteed melds.
I seem to remember an interview saying that feedback on the new Diadem will influence development on Eureka so it could also be a testing ground for RNG based progression.

If you want to run diadem the long amount of times to get the weapon for your main and sub classes, have at it. You might get lucky! But don't pretend that the fight or grind is a trivial one. if you are really looking to top fflogs or pop in after a break to get this weapon, that is potentially a lot of time to "speed run"(if you can even do that) this content to say nothing of the random stats, so, better get friendly with those 72 players...
