I could see that you were replying to someone, and I've read the post of yours he replied to. But you did state that you wanted Thanalan and Mor Dhona to stay in the new FFXIV. The thread to my understanding is about which part of which zones you wish to still be there after the cataclysm, the fact that you want both zones to remain almost makes it sound like you do not wish them to be redesigned and stay as they are, which to me feel like wastelands.

I do agree that Mor Dhona is one of the more good-looking zones in the game (I even made a lore thread about it) but I wouldn't say no to it being changed up a bit in the way its layed out and the monster distribution as well as making it more lively and interactive. The same thing can be said about Thanalan, I kinda like the zone despite it being empty, it has a certain calm vibe to it that I like in certain areas and the western side next to the see is fairly good-looking.

You're totally in right to like them as they are btw

I just hope they change for the better after the cataclysm.

From what I've seen of the new maps, there is nothing that we have now that is worth porting.

Just take SS and movies of things as they are now, because what is coming is beyond awesome and there is no going back.

What makes me the most happy is that the cities will be redesigned as well.

Thanalan is exactly how a SAVANNA (it is NOT a desert, but a savanna) does look (the only thing that should be changed is that Ul'dah should NOT look like such civilized town and instead should be more wild and have no paved roads whatsoever), and Mor Dhana has a realistically different look. If they want to split them up into smaller zones, such as West/East Thanalan which should require traveling through Ul'dah and split Mor Dhana into two smaller zones (Northern Mor Dhana and Southern Mor Dhana), that'd be fine.
I'm wondering too if you fully realize why I posted this thread. I'll try to explain. The entire zones, mor dhona and Thanalan, are being completely scrapped, and it's impossible for them to be recreated in the new game engine. What they are going to do is rebuild those 2 zones from scratch and reuse the textures. So the look and feel that you said you liked will carry over to the new game automatically. The question at hand is if there's a specific place or rock, tree, bush, etc that you feel should be ported into the new engine. If so you should post about it because otherwise it's going in the trash can. Lol.

Good point about Ul'Dah being more of a desert town. It seems rather unbelievable that in the middle of the desert with no apparent water source, is this huge city with all this "trade" around it. Who cares about the desert enough to want to trade there? I would find a true dirt floor city to be more believable.

    Inhuman. lol.

The Black Shroud makes me want to throw up, but it's also my hometown. I love the feel of it, but the copy/pasted terrain is insanely taxing on the mind!

*Says a prayer to the Twelve for Seirra Lanzce* lol

I think it should be an actual forest.. like the Ronfaure but better. I hope it keeps the same mood but allows you go walk in all directions. Right now it's some kind of weird iron forest. I just hate how you see the same thing no matter where you go. In Thanalan or La Noscea, I have the illusion of being different places. But in the Shroud, it feels more superficial somehow. You know you're just crossing through Tunnel A1 or Pass 2B, there's no suspension of disbelief at all.

Until you get to the Galmorre ruins.

Well, isn't a real maze more symmetrical? If it looked EXACTLY the same everywhere I would greatly prefer that to the small amounts of variation that are repeated everywhere. In a real maze that's man made you would get a much greater sense of mystery! And a real maze nature-made would be not copy-pasted! Give me either one. Anything but what we have now.
